wow guys, i really appreciate your encouragement, and i’m impressed with your statistical detective work invisible. the thing is though, i’m willing to bet that none of the 2350+ people you saw on that thread had class ranks below the the top 10%. in that sense i’m a kind of unusual case because there’s usually a very strong correlation between those two statistics. and i guess i shouldn’t be too negative, but i also want to avoid anything close to optimism, otherwise i’d be reallllyyyyy disappointed if rejected.

also do you think you could post the links to those decision threads? i can never seem to find them…

Curtis, from this point on, you are NO LONGER ALLOWED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR CHANCES AT COLUMBIA NOR ABOUT YOUR STATS. Seriously. Have fun in New York!

-fledgling :)

who’s curtis? lol…

Curtis = InvisibleMonster. In case you haven’t looked at his location closely enough… :p

ahh…clearly i hadn’t, lol.

Oh my lord, there’s like no chance for me. Honestly, as someone has said before, these stats are blinding. Spill those 2300 secrets please.

Hope I’m not a loser if I jump in at the end here?

SAT: 800 cr, 610 m, 740 wr
ACT: 30
SAT II: 790 US History 720 Lit
GPA: 4.0 W (idk UW)
Rank: 3/65

EC and Awards: NMS Commended (New York), President of NHS, MUN, School Lit Magazine, Student Body. I do Mock Trial, and am heavily involved in a bunch of drug prevention programs around the state as a youth leader. (300 hours of leadership training in group devlopment and facilitation)…I run track and xc…do plays and musicals…tutor? And a few other things…and I like walks in the park and hot chocolate on cold windy days.

Clearly I’m hoping to get in more on extra stuff than my academics. Is that going to work?

@InvisibleMonster If we get in then I’ll teach you to knit!

Reading through this thread makes me want to cry and smile at the same time…

There are so many 2300+ SAT, highly ranked people that it’s honestly making me nervous just reading this.

At first I thought college admissions was about beating the odds, but I’ve come to realize that it’s more than just a good SAT or GPA. You all seem like amazing people who I could never even come close to - but I will be so happy for those of you who get in even if I can’t say the same for myself.

The part that makes me smile is realizing that I’m not the only stressed out ED applicant, freaking out every other minute about something I could have done better in my application or scores I could have raised. In this, I drop all of my sense of competition from now until Dec. 9, because there’s really no point in stressing about scores, GPAs, and resumes I can’t control anymore. After all, we’re all just high school seniors, in the same boat, trying to get in to the school of our dreams.

That’s my two cents/pep talk/thought process on all of this. Good luck to all CC/SEAS EDers! :)

i like this musicaldreams haha

ya all seem like nice, motivated ppl haha. no shame in rejection/deferral, as long as you did your best!

anyways, a little thing on the SAT’s? What i noticed was that SAT cant always be looked at literally. like for a liberal college like columbia (columbia college, that is) reading is by far more important than math…thus im kind of worried my cr is only 730. They would prefer, i think like a 780 cr/680 math over someone with like 750 cr/750 math, since reading has far more of an impact that algebra level math…

but for SEAS, ive noticed that reading matters alot less…thus i have seen alot of people getting in with extremely low reading scores.

idk, just a bit of piece of mind? lol

good luck to ya’ll…and still no email from columbia regarding release dates =/ … since most of us (myself included) have dwelled on dec 9th release date, it would be pretty disappointing if they changed it to the 15th or something lol

I agree, although it really depends. I think if Columbia sees an applicant who is well on his or her way to a career in the natural sciences or math, but not necessarily engineering, then perhaps a higher math score and a lower CR would correlate with their app and it would still be okay.

Or maybe they just like people who have good scores all around >_< haha

Does Columbia consider the score that makes your application the strongest? Because there is a huge disconnect between my SAT (2150) and my ACT (34)…

Musicaldreams, I believe they’ll consider your 34, since it’s higher.
Good luck to you! You seem like a geat person as well. :)

I think I might just want to go to Columbia just to meet you all
Have ya’ll been approached by Columbia to send in first quarter grades?

^^^Tried to ask my GC today but she was at a meeting.

If this makes you cry, just be happy that you’re not a Yale SCEAer. I’ve heard that the thread is quite intimidating.

holy ■■■■…i just email results indeed comes out thurs at 5!!! good luck yall!!!

:D I just saw the e-mail as well!
