SEAS applicant right here who cries every time she sees the stats

Instead of studying for my huge muscles test in anatomy (and I thought that would be my easy class) I decided to make up some stats for people who applied to Columbia CC (ED) with around my SAT score (2220) and no URM/recruited athlete status. I also disqualified some people who had for instance a 2200, but a 3.5 GPA (rejected) because I have a 4.0 and one person who had about a 2250 but exceptional ECs (accepted). From this, I got 13 candidates. 6 were deferred, 5 accepted, 2 rejected.

Interpret this as you will anyone with around my stats.

what what do you mean “make up stats”?? like online place where you just randomly enter stats and they tell you likelihood?

or did you go through past columbia results?

lol either way though I feel you. Instead of studying for my wave/sound AP Physics test…i have been doing everything else. some not so productive. such as refreshing this page every 15 min. haha.

but dang…that means i have a 5/13 chance of getting in holy moly :(

also…someone wanna talk about ACT’s here? Because even though supposedly like 34 ACT = 2260 SAT, 35 ACT = 2340, I have the feeling that ivies up north dislikes ACT and actually undervalues ACT… (like fx 36 ACT wouldn’t be as legit as 2400 on SAT)…idk…maybe ts cuz of the fact that only 1/4 applicants submit any ACT scores, and only 4 percent use only ACT and no SAT…

I hope that’s not the case. My 34 ACT is in the 75th percentile, whereas my 2210 SAT is in the middle of the middle 50%.

And I’m also supposed to be working on my ToK paper, but it’s not happening. I haven’t been able to sleep lately, and I’m planning on taking a nap on Thursday just to avoid the mass hysteria that will ensue when decisions are released.

I don’t think anyone “undervalues” the ACT. At least at my school, the average accepted Columbia student has either a 2220 or a 33 – which are roughly equivalent.

^ Actually the average student accepted to Columbia has an exact average of 2173 (Exact average)

Source: Common Application
Score Range of accepted students.

low: 2030
Middle:2173
High: 2315

^ True. But scores are more useful when they’re contextualized by high-school.

^photographer said the average accepted student at his school. not overall. you should probably try to read more carefully before correcting people so smugly.

My 2220 single sitting is the highest in the history of my school lol.

Before me the highest was a student in my school who graduated last year who had a 2120 highest single sitting (But a 2200 super scored)

@AxelNofz: Now we know why you got an 800 CR and I got a 730 CR lol. ;)

Als I dont think me applying to CC is final. I’m gonna make my final decision by this week. Right now I’m starting to once again lean towards SEAS since I do like science and am decent in math.

Posted stats on collegeboard from the 2 previous years (minus 2013 which is strangely missing).

don’t confuse science and math with engineering though. i’m very tentatively interested in pursuing a double major in math and physics, regardless of where i go, but i applied to cc instead of seas because, frankly, i have no interest in engineering. as columbia2002 pointed out when i asked a really stupid question in a separate thread, columbia’s physics program is world-renowned.

axel chill out banned was just stating some facts…

but yeah photograph, I agree with you - lol on my school’s naviance from past 2 years 5 people with 2350 + all got rejected and one 2400 got deferred. haha guess my school doesnt do too well on extracurriculars huh?

Were these EDers??

lol nope didnt mean to scary you there lol. They were all rd’ers

Oh okay, better.
lol.

naomikt, I’m sorry, but I think I may have to hunt you down and kill you.

lol jk but srsly why are you so amazing? You’re a shoo-in for sure!
