Has anyone else noticed the advertisement on the top right position of this website? It offers a stats eval for $89. Why would anyone pay that much money to see if a professional thought you were elligible when for less money you can apply to the school and have them yay or nay you when it counts!?

My son had the stats eval done to see if his list was reasonable, and for the additional suggestions of other likely schools to apply to. My son was accepted at the schools tagged as matches and safeties, and WL'd at the reasonable rearches. Considering the cost of a college education, the $89 is pretty reasonable.

You can certainly apply to a number of colleges for less than the $89, but if you guess wrong, you can end up with no acceptances or only acceptances at safeties you don't like.

Couldn't a school counselor do that for you and if not couldn't you use this messageboard for free?

well, this is thier job, so im sure they are pretty qualified to do it. To command a price for something that can be done free, you have to be good at it.

Im sure some of them used to be admissions officers at top colleges.

My daughter is interested in out-of-state liberal arts colleges, which are usually outside the knowledge of your average public school guidance counselor. The Stats Eval showed she should be on target with her college choices. It was worth the money.

"To command a price for something that can be done free, you have to be good at it."

or be a good businessman :D

I have seen good arguments for it. I am glad it has worked out for you who have paid for it. I on the other hand still believe that researching the schools myself would be fun and free. But now I can see reasons for doing the stats eval. Thank you!
