The memories I will take with me were forged on a far less impressive site; they’re memories of the quirky moments in a late night practice when it was so dark the drum major was forced to conduct with a flashlight. They’re memories of the laughter at the silly behavior rampant at eight o’clock on a Saturday morning. They’re the memories of our practice field, with its withering grass, numerous potholes and crooked podium. They’re memories that don’t need pictures to live on.

It is hard for me to describe in words the beauty of Vaughn Williams, the power of Beethoven, or the sorrow of Stravinsky. There in lies the magnificence of music. In one moment it induces a tear to trickle down your face, and in the next it inspires you to lift a sword and charge into battle. And so I find myself lucky to recreate the works of masters through my horn. In doing so, if I can add a little of my self to the music, if I can reveal myself in it, I am successful in my undertaking. Music truly transcends the boundaries of language and diplomacy; it comes from the heart and lifts the mind. The opportunity to participate in such a magnificent thing humbles me.

there's comfort in numbers, and in hearing about the other amazing people who didn't get in.

o ma goodness..all these amazing people got deferred...ugh

college_hopeful, my stats are sooo similar to yours.... not received desicion, but im assuming flat-out rejection at this point.

I'm reading this thread right now to lower my expectations regarding my own letter (which is coming tomorrow.. I hope..). You guys all sound like excellent applicants, and I'd suggest that you don't let one bump in the road slow ya down!

rainsparkle, can i have ur stats?

Just looking at the stats on the wiki roster (<a href="http://www.hypothetic.org/ccstanford/?pagename=Main.SCEARoster%5B/url%5D">http://www.hypothetic.org/ccstanford/?pagename=Main.SCEARoster</a>) proves that Stanford really does get more qualified applicants than they can accept. Unoftunately, knowing that really doesn't make me feel any better.

BTW, I should have put down that I was deferred.

wow i must say, you guys are awsome. I haven't recieved my letter yet, but its not looking very good...I really am trying to realize that addmissions are such a crapshoot, that kids who deserve to be admitted aren't always (just look at this thread if you dont believe that) Thank you so much!
