i dont think they announce full scholarships until the whole applicant pool can be judged. after that, im fairly sure only the top 1% get full tuition scholarships.

That is a very good question. I emailed the admissions office to ask when decisions for full scholarships were released and any statistics about it, but I am still waiting on a response. I wish that they posted what typical recipients had in terms of grades and SAT scores. I have a 4.5/4.5 unweighted GPA but only a 2140 SAT, and I do not know if thats good enough. So far I have the Dean's scholarship for $16,000 a year.

I spoke to someone in admissions yesterday and was told that no additional merit would be given until they review the regular decision applicants ( seems fair )
She also said that the money given to those who rec'd merit will change only if they receive the half or full scholarships.

there are additional scholarships that are possible after the initial one you receive with your EA acceptance and they are NOT limited to the half and full scholarships. Last year my daughter found out in April that she received an additional $6,500 through an Engineering Legacy Scholarship.

well, this is good news. Do you know if there are additional scholarships for students not studying engineering ? I have heard other schools favor girls in engineering and make scholarships available to them.

With my scholarship they told me that all applicants are considered for the full ride scholarships once regular decisions come out, so they won't know who is in the top 1 and 2% until all the applications are in.

Got that part, but I wonder if the top applicants are the ones offered the most $$$ with their acceptance letters. Or is ther any negotiating possibilities ?

Are there any currently enrolled students or parents of such students that can shed some light on this subject ?
Anyone in colleges besides engineering have answers ?

lje62... from last year's indications, the top $$$ scholarships at EA acceptance definitely did not always represent the top applicants. NEU's merit aid is somewhat hard to understand and predict. Some students with stellar stats got no merit aid or small merit aid in comparison to others with top dean's scholarships and lesser stats. The school takes into consideration major, demographics and who knows what else.

Thank you Rated PG.
My daughter got into Bouve with a $10,000 scholarship
I will have two in college next yr and want to know the possibility of more merit aid for my daughter accepted to NEU ( her first choice school )

We have a business and had to submit a business and farm supplement form for other daughter's school ( which yielded nothing in terms of aid ) that coupled with non-custodial parent forms COST us money and got zero results.

I guess by industry standards, we look great , but it is all on paper with no liquid assets...so I 'm hoping against hope for a bone to be thrown our way.

lje,
It is likely that the merit scholarship won't change. That said, once the RD applications are complete, if no other money is offered and it is feasible, I would make an appointment and go with your D to talk to someone in financial aid. (If NEU is still her first choice). Let them know that the school is her first choice however financially you need to look at schools that offered more aid. If they have EA applicants who turned down NEU that merit money might be available.
It is worth a shot to at least go talk to them.

Thank you ebeeeee !
I will give that a try. I found my other daughter's FA advisor at her college to be of no use, and a little condescending towards us. I appreciate your sharing of info.
