  • GPA weighted: 3.98/4.3
  • Rank or % estimate: 40/628</p>

<p>Subjective:

  • Essays: Very Good.
-One was about cultural competency in the healthcare system, the other about lobbying for a bill in DC, the other about piano and the conversations I have about history with my Russian instructor.
  • Teacher Recs: Didn’t read, I’m sure it was good. She’s a nice lady.
  • Counselor Rec: Really Great (by principal- said she would recommend no student higher!)
  • Additional Rec: From organizer of the program I am completing in public health. I decided to start my work in June and do an independent research project through this program. We have the greatest conversations and her letter was lovely!

    -NHS Member (Spanish Tutor)
    -Speech Team Member
-Used to be heavily involved in choir & theatre and such…</p>

<p>Other Factors:
My mom’s friend asked for my resume to forward to her old anthropology professor at Georgetown. Perhaps she put in a positive word for me.
By the way I did not send a resume or activity list to the school itself, but if they received that one it had my AP Scores and my Math SAT II.</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted</p>

<p>Accepted SFS!</p>

<p>Objective:</p>

<p>[ *] SAT I (breakdown): 2230: 740 CR, 710 M, 780 W
[ *] ACT: 33
[ *] SAT II: 800 US History, 740 Literature, 710 Math I
[ *] Unweighted GPA: 97.7/100
[ *] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/114
[ *] AP (place score in parenthesis): US History-5
[ *] IB (place score in parenthesis): None
[ *] Senior Year Course Load: AP Chem, AP Lit, Honors Calculus, Sociology/ Psychology, Dual Enrollment Spanish V, Art IV, Religion (required)
[ *] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
National Merit Commended Student
Rotary Club Student of the Month
An academic award for volleyball
An award for top 5,000 SAT scores in PA
tons of in-school awards for specific subjects
Environmental Engineering Award at our county science fair</p>

<p>Subjective:</p>

<p>[ <em>] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Student Council (Secretary), Peer Helpers (Executive Board), School paper (editor-in-chief), Marching Band (Pit Section Leader), NHS, Spanish Club, Chess Club, Tutoring…
[ *] Job/Work Experience: None
[ *] Volunteer/Community service: I volunteer weekly at the local library, along with years at my church carnival and altar serving. My big thing was creating a fundraiser for Malaria No More that raised 1000 dollars. I also helped organized a fundraising walk for Concern Worldwide for my friend’s charity.
[ *] Summer Activities: I went to Europe this summer with American Music Abroad. My summers have always been full of travelling, all over the country.
[</em>] Essays: My “about me” one was about how a Bill Clinton rally when I was four created a lifelong love of politics, my extracurricular one was about a fundraiser I organized for the charity Malaria No More, and my SFS-specific one was about terrorism, madrassahs, and the need for well-rounded education in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
[<em>] Teacher Recs: I thought it was great, she was my APUSH teacher and is now my SC advisor. She’s young, so she’s more like my friend and mentor than my teacher.
[</em>] Counselor Rec: She knows me really well, I’m always in her office for college stuff! Plus, I’m on the Executive Board of the Peer Helping Organiziation that she is in charge of.
[<em>] Interview: Solid. It was only 30 minutes long, but I think the interviewer got a good taste for why I love Georgetown.
[</em>] Additional rec: None.</p>

<p>Other:
[ *] Applied for Financial Aid?: But of course!
[ *] Intended Major: SFS, but undecided within that
[ *] State (if domestic applicant): Pennsylvania
[ *] Country (if international applicant):–
[ *] School Type: Catholic, good academic reputation
[ *] Ethnicity: White
[ *] Gender: Female
[ *] Income Bracket: about $120,000, I believe
[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Absolutely none. I am white, from Pennsylvania, I don’t play the bassoon or the bagpipes, etc. I thought my lack of hook would be my death warrant, but it wasn’t! So there is indeed hope for the hookless out there…</p>

<p>Reflection</p>

<p>[ *] Strengths: GPA, Extracurriculars, essays. I come across as the typical “well-rounded” student on paper, but I like to think that I’m more than that, ha. I’m glad that Georgetown saw that, too!
[ *] Weaknesses: Perhaps TOO well-rounded?
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Because Georgetown appreciates kids who AREN’T from prep schools in DC, Virginia, and Maryland. :stuck_out_tongue:
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: This is the first school that I heard from!</p>

<p>General Comments:
I’m really thrilled, I was convinced I would be deferred. I haven’t fully comprehended it yet! This is the first college that I heard from, so this is a really big confidence booster. I’m not sure if Georgetown is my first choice, but I’m psyched to meet everyone at the accepted students weekend!</p>

<p>Sorry this is so long. I’ve been stalking CC for a year, and now I finally get to be THAT GUY who lists all my obnoxious stats and such. :P</p>

<p>Hmm on my stats i meant UW GPA is 3.97, my school doesn’t weight.</p>

<p>Accepted, SFS</p>

<p>Stats:

  • SAT Total: 2240
  • SAT II: 660,690,720,780
  • AP scores: 4 4s, 4 5s
  • GPA weighted: ?
  • GPA unweighted: 4.0
  • Rank or % estimate: 4/600ish</p>

<p>Subjective:

  • Essays: atrocious first essay, the second one was ok
  • Teacher Recs: generic
  • Counselor Rec: good
  • Hook (if any): decent interview</p>

<p>Location/Person:

  • State or Country: the South
  • School Type: Public
  • Ethnicity: White*
  • Gender: Male
  • Legacy Yes/No: No
  • Recruited Yes/No: No
  • Important ECs: average ECs, only debate/forensics was notable due to its implications for IR</p>

<p>Other Factors: Honestly was not expecting this. I thought I had no chance, but I guess i got in because my interview was good and my global issues essay was fairly well-written. By definition, I’m half *Hispanic but I didn’t put it down under ethnicity because the wording was unclear and I didn’t want to seem dishonest. However, I mentioned it somewhat in my essay, maybe that helped? I don’t know. Hasn’t sunken it yet, I honestly was not expecting this. </p>

<p>Good luck everyone. And stop looking at these results threads. I used to do it all the time, they make the whole waiting period much more stressful. Honestly, the whole admissions process is bizarre, you will never be able to tell your chances by looking at these posts. Don’t worry so much, just go with the flow …</p>

<p>Other Factors: i don’t know</p>

<p>i am very upset with being deferred (GU was by far my #1 choice). However, after reading about the people who have been accepted already through college confidential, I can see how much more accomplished they are compared to me. In the deference letter it said that only 10% of deferred applicants get accepted early decision. Why is that number so low?..Is all hope lost? - are the chances too slim for me to get in RD? comments anyone please? :(</p>

<p>haha i couldn’t tell if being a jew would be a hook or a negative in a place that is overrun with priests. i’m a jew, but i got rejected too, even with pretty good numbers. it was my #1 choice as well. :frowning: oh well. i think they’ve taken like 2 people from my high school in about 15 years…us CT kids are cursed.</p>

<p>i mean, it’s possible that we could get in RD, but i’m certainly not gonna count on it…</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted

  • Recruited Yes/No: No
  • Important ECs: Founded school lacrosse team (my first essay), varsity golf, spent a lot of time on mock trial (second essay) and quiz bowl</p>

<p>Other Factors: Really went off the wall with my “Why Georgetown” essay, doing a series of flashbacks in which my interest in political economy is traced from a hypothetical job ten years from now, to my class at Georgetown, to my current AP US Gov class. It was very good.
Main Weakness: no employment experience or major volunteer work, but I played to my strengths in my essays and made sure that they created an integrated full person.</p>

<p>same, gtown is known for not really accepting many kids from my high school, unfortunately. </p>

<p>yeah… I don’t really count on getting in RD, which is really disappointing to me because prior to this I really thought that I had a shot… :/</p>
