Any current NYU Tisch drama students?
What were your academic stats?
This last six weeks of waiting is hard for Mom, too.
Thanks for your input.
Anyone's input always welcomed.

In general, current students are too busy to post on CC. My son was accepted at Tisch. He had a GPA of 4.3 and a SAT of 2100.

Most students who apply have pretty good stats. The critical thing is the audition.

Best of luck to you. There are lots of great programs out there, and more than likely your daughter will end up at one she is happy with.

Thanks, NJTheatreMom,

My D has GPA 4.17, only took SAT & ACT once at end of junior year:SAT 2010, ACT 33,
7 AP classes(scores 4,4,4,5) and taking 3 now as a senior. Lots of EC, rodeo queen for 2 years, 2 varsity sports (equestrian 10 years , basketball 4 years).

She thinks the audition went very well. She was in there for 18 minutes and redid one monologue a different way with direction and then sat and talked and answered questions.
The auditor was floored and amused to hear that if all acting opportunities failed in life what would be her backup plan in life . Her answer was become a reconstructive plastic surgeon and help people who have been disfigured by injuries or cancers. He said in 30 years he had never heard of that answer.

BUT it really is a crap shoot isn’t it? So much subjectivity. Trying to be hopeful. Hard to imagine kids that have worked so hard and then have their sights set on one place like NYU. Hey this will be memorable anyway we look at it.

Thank you for indulging in Mom’s nervous and stupid questions. I do know there are no guarantees in life especially this field.

Wow, rodeo queen and varsity equestrienne! I hope that’s on your daughter’s resume somewhere. :)

She sounds like a great kid. She’s lucky to have your strong support during this emotional roller coaster of a year.

oh yea it’s all on her application.
Colorado small town opportunities differ from others.
She’s not showing the nerves I have. That’s why I starting posting here so I wouldn’t drive her crazy. Thanks.

I am a current NYU Tischie, in my 2nd year.

I had about a 3.6 GPA in high school, with an SAT of 2010, and only took 3 AP classes

Everla,
Thank you
Boy it is hard to wait. These next 6 weeks are going to be hard.

I read you are in Adler Studios. How are you enjoying that?
Did you have a long acting resume before entering Tisch? My D does not.

Everla,

One other question

Can you remember timing and details of your Tisch audition from when you entered the auditor’s room until you left the room?
VERY curious how D audition compares.
Thanks

My kid had a 4.2 GPA, 2070 SATs and 30 on the ACT. He was accepted Early Decision in December. Best of Luck!

BvilleLady
Thank you

Do you recall the details of your son’s audition experience?

I mean the moments he was with the auditor.

DaughtersDream, My son did his audition back in early November–so I hope I get the sequence right after all this time. He auditioned MT, primarily because he has a beautiful singing voice (baritone with lyric tenor notes) and wanted the auditors to hear it. He’s had very little dance experience, however, and that was the thing he was most concerned about going in. He arrived in dance attire, did the dance portion with 3 others and, surprisingly, had a lot of fun with it! Changed into black slacks, casual dress shirt and vest for singing and monologues. For whatever reason, he had brain fade and dropped some lyrics in his full length song. Very scary for a singer. Fortunately, he quickly recovered, finished the song and sang his 16/32 bars of his second song without incident. So that brought him to the monologue portion of the audition. He had one monologue he knows very well and has used in auditions before. But the second monologue was fairly new to him. I’m guessing the flub in the song got his adrenaline going, because he said he had no problem with either monologue and he felt good about them. Sorry, I can’t recall if he was asked to work them differently. His interview was upbeat and positive. He most recalls them asking him what he’s been reading lately–which threw him because he didn’t want to mention school related books. He’s a Dan Brown fan, so he was able to discuss The DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons and the recent Lost Symbol.

I do believe the auditors are looking for confidence and potential–not perfection. It sounds like your daughter had a very good audition. Fingers crossed and best of luck!

BvillleLady,

Thank you
Confidence and potential…

I’ll let you know

I Love Adler. It is an extremely positive environment, part of their mission statement is that “growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous”.

I had a number of shows on my resume, but most were community theater musicals. Although the resume plays into decisions, I don’t think it is a huge part of it. A friend of mine in Adler had only been in two shows before auditioning for NYU, and he has a large scholarship so you never know.

With the time question. I didn’t get through either of my monologues and I felt as if my auditioner was firing questions at me, my current roommate only got two lines into each of her monologues and was not asked any questions; we both thought that we did not get into the school.

My mom was also much more worried then I was during the audition process, but I ended up with choices, which is all anyone can hope for. What really helped me during college letter season was figuring out that I didn’t want to go to a school that didn’t want me to come.

I’m a current NYU Tisch Drama student.
I had around a 3.7 UW GPA and around a 2080 on the SATs.
I was originally in ETW but felt it wasn’t a good fit, and am now in Strasberg.

Thanks Monologue

Sounds like my D compares well academically.
She thinks audition went went…

Next 4 weeks are going to be hard to wait.
Hope she gets invite to Saturday at the Square.

Would be during her HS spring break so that’d be great.
She’s handling this wait better than I am.

Which dorms are best for Tisch Drama students?

Monologue,
What were the details (from what you remember) about your artistic review?

Did you feel good afterward?

Did your daughter get in? If so, which studio?
