Stats for Out of State Engineering students?

Hi, I was wondering if U-Mich released the out of state freshman stats of their engineering school?

I hope they do so I can compare with my stats and see if I stand a good chance...

U-Mich has really climbed to the top of my list, but unfortunately I am from Southern California and some sites say the chances of being admitted to U-Mich as an Out of State person is 20 percent less than in state :(

Michigan does not release this sort of information. By and large, Michigan is slightly more selective when it comes to OOS applicants. Below are the average stats for admitted(not enrolled) Engineering students (class of 2013).

Percent admitted into the CoE: 56% (probably in the 40% range for OOS students)
Median unweighed GPA (out of 4.0): 3.9 (probably the same for OOS students)
Median SAT (CR + M): 1400 (probably slightly higher for OOS students, maybe around 1450)
Meidan ACT: 31 (again, probably sliightly higher for OOS students, maybe around 32)

To determine your chances of admissions into the Michigan CoE, here are a few things to think about:

GPA: Unless you attend a very competitive school and take a very challenging curriculum, an unweighed GPA of 3.8+ is in order.

SAT/ACT: 2000+/30+ (with at least a 700/31 on the Math sections of the test)

APPLICATION DATE: Applying EA will help, so completing one’s application before November 1 is highly recommended.

Of course, those are general guidlines.

How much do EC’s and Community Service tend to factor in the application?
also, thanks for showing me that page…I’m in the range entering senior year with GPA of 3.8 (took 8 AP classes; 14 by graduation), SAT 1980 (690 on Math), and I am planning on retaking that and taking the ACT for one final push.

EC are considered, but not that important to Michigan.

I think EC is typically disregarded since most students have the same activities (i.e. honors club, academic/political/volunteer club, and some sport. However, it can be a major boost if you have a major draw such as starting a successful business.

That said, your gpa/course load is exactly what Michigan is looking for but that SAT is a bit weak. Aim for 2100 and/or 32 on ACT and I would say your in.

u need to get the math SAT higher, they’d rather have someone with a 800 SAT math/600 verbal than the other way around. 700 on SAT math is almost an absolute minimum if you are applying OOS to engineering.

Be sure to apply Early Action. It’s especially important for OOS.
