You have a 28. That's roughly a 1250. The median for admitted students is a 1310. You're below that. They only give scholarships to the top quarter I believe. So you shouldn't have expected anything.

What's a 3.75. At a school with rigorous academics and no weighting, you're at the top of your class. At a school with lots of grade inflation and a gigantic weight, that might not even be in the top quarter. Tulane can't go through everyone and try to ascertain what their GPA means for scholarship purposes. So whatever your test scores are is what is used to determine eligibility for aid. A higher GPA can mean the difference between $17k and $24k, but it won't qualify you for a scholarship if you don't have the scores.

If you're worried about cost, you should maybe apply for outside scholarships as well as some of Tulane's other merit scholarships. The deadline for the Dean's has passed, but if you've done a lot of community service you can still qualify for the Community Service Scholarship (deadline 15 January).

On another note, the average aid package for a kid with financial need is $25k. Overall, about 98% of those with need get some kind of need-based aid, and I believe that about 75% of the total need is met, which isn't bad. There might be some loans in there, but still, having about half of college covered just on financial need is pretty good.

I think some people who have received aid have forgotten how amazing it is that they were awarded it from a school as great as Tulane.
Honestly congratualtions to those of you who received $24,000, $22,000, $20,000, and g-d forbid, even $17,000. (thats sarcasm by the way) I too received a scholarship, but I really don't think that its necessary to play this comparison game. If you received a scholarship, I congratulate you on your hard work but is it really necessary to see what other people have received. Its only making kids feel bad because they didn't get as much or any money at all.

Well I'm not sure if they'll reconsider the scholarship. There was one fellow in this thread who had quite a bit of trouble. I think that they had eventually got him a scholarship, but it took a lot of work.

Make sure you email your admissions counselor personally and tell him/her. You might want to ask if the new score could mean scholarship money.
