Stats for those accepted to or deferred from Cornell?

Hi! I got deferred from CALS at Cornell about two months ago as a biology major. I was wondering what other people who got accepted or also deferred, or even rejected. I’ll share mine. I’m second in my class, 1420 SAT, never took ACT. Over 300 community service hours, have worked my part-time job for almost 2 years, and I live in PA. I have taken APUSH, AP Language and Composition, AP Economics, AP Physics 1, AP Calculus, and AP US Government. I am currently taking AP Statistics, AP Lit, AP Psychology, AP Biology, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP French. Every other class I have taken in my high school career have been honors classes (besides required classes that did not offer honors or AP credits). I have gotten straight As my entire high school career, except in AP Calc, I got an 84. Feel free to share!

Oh, and I played Varsity Golf for all four years. I lettered each year and was captain Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. How could I forget!

Trying to compare yourself to those who were rejected or accepted is like poking a sore tooth: it only confirms that it is sore. You have a great package. Your SAT is smack in the middle of the middle 50% of admitted students. And as I’m sure you know, ‘deferred is not denied’.

If it helps, this year 23.8% of ED applicants were admitted this year, of whom 21% were legacy, 12% were athletes, and 11% were ‘underrepresented minorities’- three of the most commonly identified ‘hooks’. 54.5% were straight up rejected. Just 21.7 were deferred to RD.

To me, that tells you all you need to know: you are a serious contender in a seriously competitive pool. Maybe you will get an offer in April / maybe not- but either way you have done all you can, and you made a good fist of it. Be proud of that. Then go find useful ways to distract yourself while you wait!

I second what collegemom said…be proud of yourself. You did great!! It’s so tough these days.
