I was thinking about UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI, USC, U of Chicago, Boston U, U of Rochester, Northwestern, American U, Emory. Are these choices reasonable/ any other recommendations? Everyone in CC is so talented and are worrying about 4.0 GPA's, it's making me nervous!

Thanks in advance!!! ^.^

AP Stats... I feel for you, I had the exact same grades.

Your journalism stats look really nice, but remember journalism is pretty much Northwestern's biggest claim to fame so many people will eb coming in with the same stats. I'll try to look up more choices for you and reply later.
Nice volunteering!

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for stat: )
I guess it would be better not to declare a popular major for certain colleges then...
thankx for the reply!

Your UC GPA is going to make it tough for you at Berkeley, UCLA and UCSD. (Check out the UCSD website and run through the formula. See if you get many "extra" points for things like leadership, adversity, etc. Without some I don't think you'll make the UCSD point threshold, which is pretty cut and dried.) The good news is that you should be looking pretty good for Irvine or Davis, and they're both terrific schools. I don't know enough about the rest to comment.

for Northwestern it is just as competitive to get into arts and sciences as it is to get into medill (journalism) and your editor-in-chief position will help you more for medill (personal belief).

Boston U and American U won't be reaches for you. And the lower UCs won't be too hard either. I might suggest that you look into a few liberal arts colleges, where they tend to base your admission more on extra curriculars rather than test scores and GPA. What is your GPA exactly? That might help us a little.

Your curriculum does not appear to be one of the strongest. No AP science, for example. I don't think Chicago will be impressed.

I agree with greennblue your curriculum is not amazingly strong, your gpa might not hurt you as much if your curriculum was stronger. Schools such as UCB, UCLA, University of Chicago, Northwestern, and University of Rochester will all be pretty big reaches for you.

You are an Asian in California. Based on your grades, it doesn't look like you're among the top students at your school. You have too many B's in the A-G courses.

UCB: REJECT
UCLA: REJECT
UCSD: REJECT
UCD: In
UCI: In
USC: REJECT
U of Chicago: REJECT
Boston U: In
U of Rochester: Likely
Northwestern: REJECT
American U: In
Emory: Highly Unlikely

Overall, you are aiming **way **too high.

UCB, - 30%
UCLA,-30%
UCSD, UCD, UCI, - in
USC-30%
U of Chicago- 15%( grades)
, Boston U-65%
U of Rochester-40%
Northwestern(40% if you ED)
American U- ?
Emory- 40% if you ED

and why should an AP science matter if you're going to major in journalism?

and i know people who got into UCLA with much lower test scores and similar GPAs.

just to let u know, i know a guy who got into UCLA with 3.9 UW GPA (no APs or honors), 1960 SAT I (470 CR, 800 M), no ECs. i suggest that u raise those SAT II scores, because even mine are better and i dont aim high.

1960? that's high for UCLA. my friend got around 1700 8-)
