Around when did you apply and are you in-state or out of state?

out of state... i got in for fall session, applied in mid october

lil killer, even if psu gets more competitive next year, you will get into shreyers with a ton of cash

I will? I have about the same stats as you, but I don't want Shreyers. I want Smeal. I'm going to report October scores, so I will probably apply like mid-November. Is that considered a tad late?

opps sorry i was responding to the guy that posted his stats on this thread... u will prob get into smeal if not DUS, also check off summer(a couple of my friends got in that way)

lil killer -schreyers is the honors program, not one of the colleges.

oh. So I can be in both honors program and Smeals. I see.

lil-killer: min SAT score for Schreyer is around 1350 - avg is in low 1400s. About 30 kids who enter PSU each year are Smeal/Schreyer.
Smeal has a newer honors program called "Sapphire" and the requirements are not as high. Check the website for details. Good luck!

Wow. PSU has good names: Smeal, Shreyer, Sapphire. LOL.

2000 on SAT (710 Math 600 Verbal 700 Writing)
3.9 W GPA
New Jersey resident
Accepted into Smeal Sapphire Program.

3.4 UW (our school doesnt weight...even for the harder classes)
1890SAT (700M, 600cr, 590w)

My son had 3.99W
IB diploma candidate
SAT 1850
Admitted Jan. to Engineering
Scottsdale, Arizona

IB Honors classes all 4 years

S had 3.781 Unweighted GPA (school does not weight or rank)
22 honors classes / 2APs (school only offers limited number of APs)
SAT 690 Critical Reading / 730 Math
Admitted to Engineering in November
OOS

karp4170...did your "S" get into Schreyers?

MightyNick-

S visited Schreyers last summer and applied before the November early deadline. However, he was not accepted.

From what I have read, about 85% of Schreyer students are from in state, leaving 15% (or about 45 positions) available for OOS and international students. After reading through the Schreyer Honors Coillege 2005-2008 Strategic Plan, I am guessing that many of those 45 positions are offered to applicants that help Schreyer meet their "strategic plan" or "diversity plan".

GPA: 3.8
SAT: 2040
OOS from Texas, admitted in September
College of Liberal Arts

I think Schreyers admissions are also affected by the major or school applied to. Beyond that, we haven't been able to figure out what gets you in. My son was fortunate to get in (along with a number of students from his high school). But the pattern was very strange. One of his good friends was rejected with really good scores, GPA and ECs. Perhaps his bio major threw him in with a bunch of strong candidates. Or maybe they didn't like his essays or recs. Other students, who had pretty low GPAs were accepted - a big surprise. It's a selection process that is very hard to figure out - much like selective LACs or other top universities. Definately not a "safety" (as many of the kids in my son's school refer to it). And especially not a saftey if you're out of state.
