Did not expect to get in to the school, so honors was a nice surprise. The Essay definitely is one of the most important factors IMO. ACT score and applying undeclared probably also helped.

Recommendations: one was astounding and set her apart from other really smart kids in her classes (!!!), the other two were also very positive, they just weren’t as eloquently written or as interesting as the astounding one
Common app essay: very original and somewhat risky-- It did not reveal anything about her life, but it did reveal a LOT about how she thinks, which really, revealed everything about her.
Awards: rote stuff like AP scholar, etc., nothing out of the ordinary

I truly believe I was accepted because I demonstrated interest. I emailed my regional admissions officer after being deferred letting her know how interested I was in the school. To all future applicants, if you truly want to attend Northeastern, show them how interested you are! Email them, attend info sessions, tour the school if you can- make sure your name sticks in their minds.

I think that what stood out most for me was balancing work, sports and school, as well as a personal essay about wrecking my dad’s car and how that helped me grow up. My Spanish teacher also wrote a glowing recommendation, as I’m the best non-native Spanish speaker in the class as a result of four years of dedicated work.

For scholarships, I got 10,000 for sophomore through senior year. I also got a 20,800 grant each year.

As for raw numbers, I’m obviously not the most impressive applicant here, which goes to show that acceptance was apparently pretty holistic.

Extracurriculars: 2 sessions at Explo at Yale (look it up, it’s incredible), a physics camp at the University of Iowa (National Scholars Institute Study of Physics), National Honor Society 3 years straight, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, Interact Club, ROTC 9th and 10th grade with leadership positions (flight commander and flight sergeant), Treasurer for Psychology Club, went to the State level NASA Astronaut Challenge at Kennedy Space Center for 3 days to compete in an engineering challenge, lab challenge, and to perform a full pre-flight checklist, launch, orbit, de-orbit, and land the space shuttle in an official simulator, and JV Volleyball in 11th grade.

Awards: Principal’s Award for 4.0+ GPA weighted all 4 years, 4th place in Mu Alpha Theta Statistics Competition, Distinguished Unit, Outstanding Flight, and placed in local drill team in ROTC, nearly perfect attendance but that doesn’t really matter.

Job Experience: I tutor friends. I’ve applied to so many jobs.

Essay: I wrote it about Explo and the life changing experiences I had there. I guess it was good enough. I certainly put my heart into it.

Recommendations: Hopefully good. My teachers are fond of me in class, and my family friend who is a Commander in the Navy as well as a medical doctor wrote a solid recommendation for me.
