Going unless I get in to a top-ranked engineering institution, along the lines of MIT, and they give me tremendous financial aid.

If you can get into MIT or Caltech or something like that, don't worry about the money. The support network you'll have will set you for life. I'd take out whatever loans I could to do it. Michigan is a great school, but it's not MIT.

I'd look at it as an investment...sure Michigan will take you far, but I think MIT opens a whole different set of doors. Not to say you can't do great at U of M...a kid I know has an older brother who graduated from Michigan, triple-majoring in physics, astronomy, and math. He's now on scholarship for a year at Cambridge, and Harvard will be paying him to get his PhD there. With those kind of scores, you must be pretty intelligent and can probably do whatever you want at any school though.

dsmo, you're talking about Jacob Bourjaily, right? I know him! He only got a double major in Honors Math and Honors Physics. He graduated in three years and is a BEAST.

He's not Asian, despite his interest in Asian culture.

just out of curiousity, how'd you do on your retake? i went up 3 pts when I retook mine.

3.96 GPA (unweighted)

i haven`t decided fully
but i would choose my EA school
or some of my top RD schools over U-Mich

Christine, you sent your app 10/11 and you got your reply a week ago? No fair! My app was sent 10/12 but I still haven't got a reply. When was your app completed?

Christine - I can only beseech you to look carefully at U of Mich. I say this because every alum I have talked to simply loves the place - and I cannot say the same about the top 10 USNWR nationally ranked private schools (undergrad and grad) my wife and I attended - in fact - there is far from universal positive acclaim amongst our fellow alums. I know this note seems recklessly anecdotal but the conclusions seem verified with every U Mich contact I make.

maguo: my app was sent in late september. it was complete on 10/11. yea, i was pretty surprised about the quick response too though, i didn`t expect anything until at least late nov.

mam1959: thanks for your input. u-mich is still def on my list i
m not ruling it out. the only thing is i really really love my scea school and some of my other rd schools, but i don
t know if i will get into them...u-mich seems too big for mee, but then again i haven
t had the chance to visit yet. so i
ll have to see. thanks though

maguo me thinks the UM adcom has been reading your other posts on CC.

any new admits?

hmm...that's weird, bc my app was complete on 10/19, my mich gpa is 4.0, and i have a 2250 sat (1490 w/o writing)...I should be a shoe-in for Mich, or at least have gotten a quick decision...my stats are comparable to the person above, so why haven't i gotten anything yet? It'll be 4 weeks tomorrow since the app was complete.

MANNTANN09, when did you summit your application?
