It is definitely a possibly that I will go, but I have other colleges to wait on. Also I need some money from them.

wow everyone is high caliber....I feel so unqualified (well I am) ... but you all seem overqualified lol. :-\ not giving me any hope.

very strongly considering it... haha, would it really mean that much to you chibears?

btw... go bears! I'm a chicago kid through and through

hmm..I thought I'd posted my stats here...I got in (to LSA) mid november; application was complete mid- october.

old SAT 1: M - 770, V-770 (1540)
new SAT 1: M - 720, CR - 740, W - 740 (2200)
SAT IIs : Writing: 750, Bio-M: 800, Math IIC: 800, USH: 760
GPA: 4.0 unweighted
Rank: 1 or 2 of 200
ECs: strong I guess.

Strongly considering going since they're offering me a boatload of money, but I'm going to wait on decisions from other colleges. (My parents are fully willing to pay, so scholarships are just bonuses) I love UMich as a whole, but there are some small things that make me hesitate - COLD weather, huge state school, far from home etc etc.

RE: Boatload of money - would you please give a few more details (as much as you are willing to share) of what types of scholarships you are being offered, and how the offers came? Was the offer in your admissions packet, were you just automatically considered, etc? I am still waiting for the $$$ info/offers from UMich, but we haven't received our admissions packet, either. Just wondering "what happens next"...thanks.

I got accepted to U of Mich while I was away in Cancun so I have no idea what day it came. Sometime between the 17th of Dec and the 24th of Dec.

Stats-
SAT- 620 math (ouch), 730 reading, 720 writing
SAT II- the only one that michigan saw was 660 Eco Bio
GPA- 3.86 unweighted but U of Mich has an amazing reputation with my school. Out of my grade of 117, 50 applied and most are getting in.
Out of state
Sex- Female
Race- White
Ethnicity- Jewish
Financial Aid?- No
Recs- incredible
Essays- pretty good but not very polished since it was the first application I turned in
ECs- Internship at NARAL Prochoice Maryland, volunteer at Planned Parenthood, founder of sex ed club at my school, varsity crew all four years (well if I decide to do it in the spring), theatre tech, Rainbow Connection, JV basketball 2 years (capitain), Internship at International Center for Research on Women, horseback riding for my whole life

I got into LSA and into the Residential College.

I was really frusterated that it took me sooo long to hear because I turned mine in September 27th. Once I heard, it meant nothing because I applied early decision to Tufts and was accepted. I denied admission.

Good luck everyone, Michigan is a great school!

Mom of Three:

I don't mind sharing at all. Actually, I posted the whole deal in another topic anyway, so it's all good. I received the scholarship offers about a month after being accepted (this past week).
One was a letter nominating me for the Shipman Scholarship (which I hear is actually rather difficult to get). If I go to Mich on their designated "Shipman weekend" and interview for the scholarship, Mich is offering 20 K per year for 4 years, plus an additional 5,000 renewable for up to 3. (this is regardless of whether I actually receive the Shipman award or not) Everyone nominated gets a similar offer, but I think it's 10K if you're in-state.
The second letter (which came on Christmas Eve!) is..I guess one of those LSA scholarships. They're essentially handing me 80K over four years. (If I were in-state, I think it would be 40 K) It was a really nice Christmas present :). And it was SO unexpected! (None of this required initiative on my part)
Together the two offers amount to a full ride and then some (hence I described it as "a boatload of money").

I saw your daughter's stats and they're better than mine, so she's in for a lot! She's also an URM, which I'm definitely not (replace the U with an O for overrepresented! lol), so there's no reason she wouldn't be getting a lot of merit aid. I assume she just recently got accepted; just be patient, the offers will come rolling in soon! good luck!

From what it looks like on this thread, most people getting accepted are OOS. However, many of you seem very on the hedge about whether you're going to accept your offers. If most of you get accepted to your other colleges that you would rather go to, do you reckon you will not accept Michigan's offer? I'm trying to find out how much room will be left for some of us in-staters who applied late, lol.

If you got into others schools and are sure you're not going to attend UMich, please matriculate for all of us! Please!!! Thank you so much

bashful, I'm not sure you know how the admissions process works at umich. OOS acceptances won't affect in-state acceptances much at all. Michigan essentially has a 1/3-2/3 quota that they try to meet for all the smiling faces in Lansing. Whether these posters matriculate will not largely affect the room available for in-staters. Plus, all of you should be encouraging them to enroll at umich, because it will make all of our educational experiences that much better to have such gifted students at the university. I hope all of you guys realize how great of a school Michigan is and choose to enroll.

chibearsfan17- I was largely joking with what I said. I know that UMich fills the school with more in-staters than out-of-staters; similar to UNC-Chapel Hill, but not as in-state-loving as UNC is with their 70% NC-ians. I'm just pointing out that on here, there are more OOS acceptees than in-state. I'm wondering where all the Michigan people going to Michigan are! And yes, I think it is good to have OOS people because I've heard Michigan is mostly preppy Bloomfield Hills and Rochester and Troy people who form cliques the first day. Let's hear it for all the Class of 2010 acceptees who hail from Oregon!

Ann Arbor students make up more of the population than Bloomfield Hills, Rochester, and Troy.

Go us!

My school sends like 15 people a year to Michigan. What now?

oh yeah, mine sends like 35+!!!!! haha

Yeaaa! Time for me to start forming cliques. Too bad there's only about a hundred of us going from my high school...

My school might only be sending 3 students and thats including me lol =[
Pretty sad for an in-state high school...

Don't know if this is a fact but last year someone said our school sent 70+ kids to UofM.....

Tetrahedron I thought you got accepted to MIT already....

I'm the one thats supposed to be considering UMICH :p

i got in dec 23rd and my app was completed nov. 5

stats:
