My friend was accepted a couple days ago... not on a friday

Roadrunner, there is no reason to accuse the University of lying to you. Either you missunderstood or the person who spoke to you wasn't clear or well informed. That doesn't mean the University "lied" to you.

Alexandre, this will be the last post I'll be making regarding this issue, but let me tell you one thing. Since saying that the University "lied" to me sounds a bit too harsh, I'll just say that they "misinformed me multiple times," and that their reps are less than competent. I called four times yesterday to avoid the "rep in question was misinformed" factor. Instead, now I have concluded that every single one of them are misinformed.

First call: **
Rep says, "We aren't able to post your decision online so you should be getting something in the mail in the next **2-3 days."

Second call:
After my questioning WHY WA won't be able to post my decisions online, the rep says, "You can't see decisions online. You can only see if the admission committee has made a decision."

I ask, "Then why could my friends see their decisions online?" And the rep goes, "That's strange, applicants usually aren't able to see their decisions online. They haven't been able to for three months."

I am speechless. She adds, "you'll get your decision within the next 2-3 days."

Third call:
I ask the same question. "We'll send you the decision via regular mail. It should come w*ithin a week.* WA probably won't even tell you that a decision has been made. Your email account was probably corrupted within the WA system and so you won't be able to check your status online."

Me: "Um... I've been able to since the week after I applied."
Rep: "Oh. Hmmm."

Fourth call:
I ask the same question. "You wont' be able to check your status online.

I ask why.

"You won't be able to check your status online because umm [awkward silence] uhhh hold on one second please."

She puts me on hold for about a minute.

"You wont' be able to check our status online because there was a bad batch of applications and no one can check their status online."

I ask if an applicant is usually able to check their stauts online.

"Yes."

I ask why the earlier rep told me they weren't.

"Oh, um.. that's probably because .. [silence] .."

"You'll get your decision in the mail within 5-10 days. Don't worry about it."

roadrunner24k, I'm with Alexandre on this one. I wouldn't say that they lied to you because I highly doubt that they would work tirelessly to lie to their applicants. Miscommunications happen everywhere. If Michigan did not have rolling admissions, you would be waiting until March/April anyway. Be patient. People aren't going to hop for you anymore since you're going into college. Last year, no decisions were posted online so we all had to wait until the decisions came in the mail. You can wait a few more days.

Roadrunner, again, there is no reason to assum the University has a hidden and dark agenda here. This is probably the first year where applicants can check their status online. As such, there probably is going to be a fair share of problems with WA reporting all the admissions decisions for the freshman class of the fall of 2006.

You guys are both right. I apologize for my unreasonable accusations. It was a heat of the moment thing.

There is no reason to apologize Roadrunner. This is a very frustrating time for all of us. The wait to know if we got into a university of choice is a huge deal. Here's hoping for a favorable outcome.

Roadrunner, I think getting the stuff about your decision being in the mail might mean a deferral. That seems to be what happened to one of my buddies.

They don't post deferrals or rejections online. Your friends were able to check online because they had acceptances. You are likely getting a deferral/rejection with you low GPA. They will notify you of that in the mail.

Oh. See? I was right in assuming I was deferred/rejected. That's what I was asking. sigh

I got in! (Engineering). Posting stuff gets a lot less creative the second time around...so the time warp cleared everything before 1/18. Ah, well. A second time:

Roadrunner, that not rare I think

Maybe it has something to do with being a public school, but three of my friends last year didn't even hear from UofM.

At all. They didn't get a rejection/admit/deferred

Just to let you that hope exists (stats of a friend):

App Sent: 1 November 2005

Her acceptance is contingent on attending the Summer Bridge Program though.

There's more to this story than just numbers, so stat mongers, screw off.

She's definitely accepting, and I couldn't be happier for her.

Definitely! Congrats to your friend!

I hope there isn't any whining about that ACT score, or the fact that this person was in-state.

This is an applicant who was the captain of their sports team, showed heavy committment in a sport (4 years), which takes up so much of your time, and they still pulled off a 3.7-3.8.

Also holding a leadership position in NHS and in the overall Student Body shows a lot about her social traits.

idc if they are captain, being outright accepted with a 22 is ridiculous! 3.7-3.8 shows that they must have incredibly easy classes or serious grade inflation, does this person have some sort of other hook?! Are they a minority or are they being recruited for sports? Unless they were like sick the day of the ACTs or got good SAT scores i think that is HORRIBLE that with a 22 someone can get into U of M.

I agree with goblue. A 22 converts to around a 1500/2400. I don't care how bad of a test-taker someone is, that is a ridiculously low score.
