Does anyone know when we hear back from preferred admissions?

Man, darkpenguin, I got deferred with a 2190 SAT heh

wow darkpenguin you found out really fast

What else was going on with your app? You should have been a shoo-in with 2190.

i don't think so, it seems like alot of people have been deferred with amazing scores. not like 2400's, but like 2200's ish.

Mmm, I'm kind of surprised too. I think one factor that helped me get in was the fact that I applied for Preferred Admissions. Doesn't mean I'm going to get in the program but it shows I have a lot of interest in the university. I also had a lot of unique extracurricular activities and have won an international award and come from the South, which probably tipped the scales. I've also noticed the diminishing importance of SAT scores in many cases. CCRunner, since you got deferred, I'd write a letter to them telling them how much you love Michigan, lol. But you should have gotten in with decent essays and good grades. Crazy Michigan.

u guys make me lose hope... my SAT only 1820 >.<"
applied in late jan, no answer yet

3.3 uw, 25 act from out of state. not a urm. v

Kyle, the acceptance rate in the early period for non-athlete white applicants from out of state with your stats is close to 0%. Care to share some more details about yourself. Perhaps some unique ECs or being part of an elite prep school where a 3.3 GPA is an achievement? Or maybe a 2.0 GPA sophomore year followed by a 4.0 GPA junior year and a 4.0 first semester senior year? I am sure many applicants are going to want to know how your unusual case can give them hope.

Speaking of deferred with good scores, I just got my letter despite my 2300 and 3.4

Michigan GPA and transcript seem to be at least if not more important than SAT scores. I guess there is good reason to evaluate what one has accomplished over several years as opposed to a 4 hour exam.

Yeah, GPA is definitely more important than the test scores. I think that's true for most universities.

yay i got in, i submitted my app on 11/22/05, i got accepted on 1/30/06. my sat score is 2170. i'm out of state. my gpa (weighted) is 4.490 or something like that

laxster, your case gives me a sad face. In my experiences, SAT scores are every bit as good an indication of college performance as HS grades are. Perhaps there are statistics to the contrary, but many kids I know with great intellects were bored out of their mind in HS, got something like a 3.4 because they couldn't stand the pace of the classes (even honors or AP), then rocked their SAT (like a 2300). In college they've been doing awesome, and i would be really upset if laxster was one of these students and ended up getting rejected.

im fron wv for one, i guess that might count for something, eagle scout, brother currently goes there. not too much else really...

Thanks for sharing Kyle.

I wrote an excellent essay, and I think my English teacher wrote me a great recommendation though I can't be sure since I never actually saw it. The Honors College even sent me an invite to write an essay, which was surprising given my middling ACT score. They didn't admit me but they do want me to take their Great Books course, a decision I've never heard of before and found rather odd.
