For those of you who received merit only, not need based scholarships, what were your GPA's and SAT scores and how much did you receive. After visiting GW last week, my S was told to appeal for merit only scholarship, but I'd like to make sure that he truly qualifies before attempting this.

I got the Presidential Academic Scholarship for $15,000.

GPA: 3.74 (UW) 4.3 (W)
SAT: 1820 (650 V, 590 M, 580 W)
ACT: 27
Extracurriculars : Editor Of School Newspaper, Two Jobs, Run my own website and PR Company, Finance Chair of two clubs. I didn’t play any sports, only had a little volunteer work.

My stats aren’t much to go by, I’m honestly still surprised I got a scholarship, much less even got in.

Thanks CorindianaJones for your response. Your GPA is very good and your EC’s show the kind of leadership and motivation that schools like GW are looking for in students. It doesn’t surprise me that you were accepted with a scholarship.

I would truly appreciate more responses to get a better idea of my S’s stats in relation to those of you who received merit awards.

I got the Board of Trustees scholarship for 20k.

SAT: 1460/2170 (750 CR, 710 M, 710 W)
GPA: 3.7ish UW, 4.1 W
Extracurriculars: Many leadership positions, interned at NJDOT (dept of transportation)…

To LuckyMe: Presidential is merit only from admissions not dependent on showing need. Trustee is finaid/merit. You can’t get a Trustee without showing need and is awarded with finaid package.

Neethus…correct me if I’m wrong!

I think trustee is merit.

I found this on the GW website:

The Board of Trustees Scholarship (BOT) is available to academically excellent students who also demonstrate eligibility for need based assistance according to GWs policy.

So I guess I need to get responses from those of you who have received the Presidential Academic Scholarship.

But thank you neethus1 and congratulations. BTW, are all of you who received scholarships going to attend?

My son’s stats:
SAT R- 650 M- 670 W- 600 ACT 30
GPA 3.9 unweighted
2 years of duel credit and an associate’s degree

EC include 3 varsity sports, jazz, marching, concert band, senior class pres

He’s accepted in SMPA at GW

He got the presidential scholarship for $15 but also got the trustee for $20. Since he can accept only one of course he’s taking the trustee.

What is GW’s policy?

I’m not going - I’m pretty sure I’m going to Tufts.
