[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: I attended the USC summer seminar in architecture which I think helped my application dramatically. There I met a lot of amazing kids whom I still visit quite frequently. I also got a letter of recommendation from one of the professors I had during the summer at USC, who teaches in their program, which again probably helped a lot. I kept in very good contact with my USC representative. When they came to visit my school I walked her around campus and had some time to talk. I was really outgoing and forward about wanting to attend USC during the whole process. I sent thank you notes (email) to my representative after meeting with me. I really did everything I could to help my admission, which seems to have payed off.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I’m attending USC next year. Status did the usual fall grades----forwarded—reviewed

Other Factors, hook?: I really tried to show USC that it was my first choice school… I had a great interview and I wrote an essay that I think highlighted my writing capabilities (i’m in communications so i guess that’s important)

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: FIGHT ON!

**Decision: Accepted as Spring Admit **

Date applied: December 1
Date decision postmarked/received: 3/26 3/29
Accepted at which school/major at USC: Marshall

[] GPA-UW/W: 4.0/4.3

[/ul]Subjective:[ul][] Essays: pretty good

[] School Type: small urban catholic school
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: male
[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: My interview went very well. I explained to her how I would love to study abroad in Switzerland (I’m swiss). USC is the only school I know of to offer this and I have family close by the study abroad school. I also felt this application reflected my achievements better than the common app.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I was waitlisted to BC, Richmond, and UVa last week, so hearing this was another slap in the face. I would have gone here in a heartbeat, but now I’m not sure. I will probably visit.

P.S. my status went from fall grades to in review last week, and since then it hasn’t changed. I wouldn’t trust it. I never tried the back door things.

Decision: Accepted - Spring

Date applied: Before Dec 1
Date decision postmarked/received: 3/26; 3/29
Accepted at which school/major at USC: CLAS - Biological Sciences

Stats:[ul]

[] ACT: X
[] SAT Subject Tests: 730, 700
[] GPA-UW/W: 3.7/~4.2
[] Rank: Top 20%
[]AP/IB classes: 5 APs; no IB classes offered
[/ul]Subjective:[ul][] Essays: Reflected on a personal circumstance and how I persisted even through those tough times.
[] Teacher Recs: Read one out of the 2. I wasn’t that close to either of the teachers, so I would assume that they were kind of generic.
[] Counselor Rec: Definitely generic. Don’t know counselor at all.
[] EC highlights: Community service (200+ hours), Marching Band for 4 years[/ul]Location/Person:[ul][] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: F
[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: none

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I definitely would have chosen to go to USC, but spring admit makes me reconsider my other options, which are very limited because I got rejected by a ton of schools. Basically, it’s between UCD and USC spring right now, but I’m leaning toward USC spring. Will have to wait for financial aid to make my final decision. Hopefully I’ll get bumped up to Fall 2010!

I’m really surprised by the stats of people who got turned away by USC. Mine are very average, but I think my essays definitely made my app more unique.

I was also waitlisted at BC and WUSTL. But that’s ok because I’ve got USC!!!
