Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1870
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT IIs: N/A
[] GPA: 3.68 UW (Tons of honors courses and a few AP's)
[] Rank: N/A
[] Other stats: Honor Roll and all that jazz.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: My film essays were very heart-felt and tweaked about 20 times - I guess nobody bothered to read them.
[] Teacher Recs: I had my favorite teachers do them so I'm guessing great.
[] Counselor Rec: Didn't read - I'm sure it was good.
[] Hook (if any): The anti-hook, low SAT's.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Vineland, NJ (USC says south Jersey doesn't exist, I beg to differ).
[] School Type: Small, very competitive, all boys, sends kids to lots of top schools each year.
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: Very well-rounded resume/started a tutoring program for less fortunate children in Camden, NJ. Varsity sports, music, leadership positions, NHS, NSHS, student government, Big Brothers, etc. etc.
General Comments: My parents went with a very laissez faire approach concerning the college admissions process so I'm proud of the other 7 schools I did get into. My biggest regret is worrying so much about USC that I didn't get to enjoy receiving my other acceptances. I visited, had a great interview, made it known USC was my top choice all over my application, but I guess USC didn't want to hurt its numbers. Am I disappointed? Yes, but I'm used to being the underdog and will save my rejection letter for my first Oscar speech. See you in Hollywood!

thanks JW Muller :)

I would not mind having the 1st semester off!

Congrats, you are probably better off, both schedule-wise and financially, to take some CC courses to meet part of your freshman requirements.

Decision: Accepted (to Marshall)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: N/A
[] ACT: 32

[] GPA (uw/w): 3.5 unweighted, 4.31 weighted

[] Hook (if any): started businesses, lived in hong kong when younger, counselor said I was the "one" student (out of many) who really wanted to go to USC
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Illinois
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male[/ul]Other Factors?:

Decision: ACCEPTED Spring 2009, Cinema-Television

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2220 (750W, 740CR, 730M)
[] ACT: -
[] SAT IIs: -
[] GPA: n/a (foreign grading system). Stellar at the beginning of grammar school, declining towards the middle, and then again very good at the end --> huge upward trend.
[] Rank: 2/63
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I really liked my big essay and put a lot of effort into it. One of the short answers was rather boring, the other one was quite good, IMHO.
[] Teacher Recs:
for the university: good
for the film school: awesome.
[] Counselor Rec: we don't have any counselors...
[] Hook (if any): probably not a real hook, but USC loves internationals: I'm half Swiss, half Polish, and was raised in Germany.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Switzerland
[] School Type: public, but very good
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: male
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: There are a few things I'm really, really passionate about, and I think that shone through in my application. For the film school, my penchant for film sound and sound design and my "career" as an actor might have helped. Other than that, I tried hard to express exactly how I feel and what I want to say in my personal statements.
General Comments: I was hoping for a scholarship. Oh well... Still awesome!

*Decision: Accepted Spring *

Stats:[ul]
[]SAT: 2330 (800 CR, 750 W, 780 M)

[]Rank: No idea
[]Other stats: 5 on AP Bio, 4's on APUSH and Comp Sci A

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: People said it was good and feisty. I reread it and had a lot of typos, but it was slightly eccentric, so that must've been good. I'm really embarrassed about the typos though! I'm so lucky I even got into Spring.
[] Teacher Recs: Very good!
[] Counselor Rec: No idea.
[] Hook (if any): I still don't get what 'hook' is supposed to be. I don't think I had any hook...
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Southeast Asian
[] Gender: Female
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: Tons of ECs that range from political activities to simple volunteer hours. I volunteer abroad in third world countries, specifically on the border of THai and Burma (I'm burmese) and started a itsy weensy foundation that still has yet to officially start. I do tons of small stuff, and I'm active in my school artist community.
General Comments:
I like and respect USC, and I am very thankful they accepted me//took a chance or I would have ended up at UCLA because I got rejected from my first choices (damn GPA and baby boomers).

Timely's S:

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2160 (CR 760 M 660 W 740)
[] GPA (uw/w): 3.56 uw yep, that was probably the killer...remember this when you hear people say that home schooled kids have moms who give them all A's...not true, home school moms are generally pretty mean :-)

General Comments, status update dates: Status didn't go "acted on" until 4/4; decision received 4/9; accepted to Chapman in film production with 50% merit scholarship and full Army ROTC scholarship (accepting the ROTC scholarship)

[] State or Country: New Mexico
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?:I think my ethnicity/location played a major factor
General Comments: I got my decision on 3/20, and my status change to "acted on" until a week later. I feel really really fotunate for getting accepted for fall. My ECs were really diverse, but to be honest i didn't have almost any community service stuff. Now I just need to figure out a way to afford it...

Do you know if many kids from New Mexico apply to USC? I think the majority go to UNM i.e., University Near Mommy.

lol also because UNM gives all kids full ride right?

Not many people from New Mexico apply to any other schools out of state because of UNM and NMSU. Almost everybody that's going to college at my high school is going to NMSU since it's 2 minutes away and because it's unbelievably easy to get a full ride.

General Comments: I absolutely hate USC for not notifying me earlier. I had to wait ALL this time to hear I was accepted over the phone half way through April. Ridiculous. It's in the ghetto and I would never go there anyway.

School attending: Whitman College!

PS: If it's helpful to anyone, I would also like to add that I was rejected at Pepperdine (which is weird because USC is far more selective), Emory, and Notre Dame. And I was waitlisted at Claremont McKenna.

Good luck to the 2013ers!

KBaher believe me I would LOVE to be in your place right now ;(
That's so weird we had the exact same SAT score.. your GPA is solid though mine wasn't.
