What do you think your chances are (%): good, 50% of course I have hooks.

what are your hooks then..... rite now ur looking pretty average to below average for columbia and princ

For Columbia I think I am above average. Average for Princeton. Well let's see I have done traveling over the past two years. Greece and Cyprus. I am a first generation American, both parents foreign born. I am trilingual, and two of my teachers asked to write my letters of rec, so I assume they are rather good, let's see your stats since, you are so quick to label me average/below average. Please don't embellish or sugar coat, be real.

Those are a few of my hooks, I do have more but will not divulge them now. I think I have a good chance at Columbia.

you think you're above average for columbia but average for princeton? why do you think columbia has lower standards than princeton?

Look at the mid 50% SAT, and also I am same state as Princeton, try to be a little more observant before posting. think before engaging fingers in this case. Let me see some stats Columbia hopefuls. I am interested in the competition, once again please no embellishment. I am sensing some hostility already b/c I love Princeton. I am making friendly convo. I would LOVE to go to Columbia it is my #2.

My Math is above mid 50% for Columbia, not above Princetons. I am just telling you what i'm feeling and my hooks are pretty good, again I am not divulging all, that would be foolish, you are all opposition to my application.

why do you think columbia has lower standards than princeton?
[/quote]

i think this is true to a degree, but it's much fairer to say that they look for different things

no that was a completely honest question. i know very well that princeton has higher average scores than columbia (it was higher on my list than columbia at one point) but they ask for different things from the applicant in general. for example, an ap international scholar might get into princeton because he has 10 5's on aps, but at columbia he'd be plain rejected if it's not supported with additional data. ec's and hooks count a lot more at columbia.

take a look at one of the previous threads in this forum, the one with the stats of ed's after they were told of their early results. you'll see the difference.

and i'd like you to be a little more observant about this college process in general before you start flaming other people. it seems like you probably have the us news and world report rankings memorized.

you are so competitive it's almost inappropriate for discussion.

No I have looked up the stats to the schools that I am applying to, but Colombia EDers are very testy, so I suppose that I may not apply if any of you are accepted. Don't be so defensive! Jeez, what is wrong with you people, I want stats I get attitude.

"so I suppose that I may not apply if any of you are accepted"

we are testy eh? coming on the columbia board and posting that "I'm average for princeton but above average for columbia" is sure to generate some reactions. althogh "princeton is superior to columbia " may be coming from stats and supported by ideas that are thrown around on other parts of this forum, bringing this up on the columbia board without a structured support is just asking for flame.

and yes as Columbia EDers we do exhibit somme degree of emotional attachment to the school.

anyways as this post has already drifted away from its original purpose, just let it die. stats will be posted sooner or later (most likely in 2 weeks)

well i need help procrastinating so i won't let this die. but first let me say to princetonian that it is most definitely not all about grades and sat's, as you seem to think. you seem to have a shot at columbia..you're definitely qualified, but not much sticks out about you.

anyway, my stats (rd)
SAT: M 700, W 750, CR 800
SAT IIs: us history 750, lit 720, math 1 620 (i've heard they won't look at the math though, since they only require 2.)
Rank: i'm not revealing my rank to you bc it will cause you to make judgments, and my school does not officially rank. i go to a magnet school with a bunch of brilliant kids, so our ranks don't go on our transcripts.
GPA: no unweighted for same reason as no rank, weighted = 4.54
Extra Curriculars: a ton of volunteering for democratic party campaigns, young democrats club, writer for weekly teen section of major local paper, school paper, youth group, lots of summer camps/traveling w/ young judaea, junior intermezzo club, academic team, nhs, teacher's aide at synagogue religious school every sunday for the past 5 years, other stuff here and there
Positions: young democrats president, youth group coprez, academic team cocap
Awards: I just added this category...some form of honor roll throughout high school, ap scholar with honor (so far), nms semifinalist (so far)
What do you think your chances are (%): hell if i know...though i am from sc so i get geographic diversity points

quite frankly grk, these arent the most impressive stats. nothing really separates you from the other saludictorians out there

Two Presidential titles and SATs above 50%tile, and hooks i havent mentioned. I''m pretty confident

this is really a pointless arguement. someone redirect him/her to the parent forums... the truth is that NO one can be confident about admissions (especially RD) when the accpetance rate is under 10%.
also club presidents (or even non recuite sports captains) while being good leadership positions is not going to be the "admit factor". no one here is saying you wont be admited, just that being "pretty confident" at a school with less than 10% rD acceptance rate and not offering the backings to that is arrogant.

I choose not to reveal my hooks, because it's something obscure and unheard of....oh yea, strategy! Why should I reveal my strategies and hooks to the opposition? That would be foolish ;)

GrkPrincetonian, I have better stats than you. You do not have " above average shot" at Columbia.

Thanks for listing your stats business_freak, for such an intellectual, par excellence, you are quite observant. Also, be that as it may, if it is true and you do not embellish, my hooks will probably deliver me to Columbia, assuming Princeton does not take me up on my first try. Believe me, my hooks are quite strong, and guess what, I am neither poor nor a minority, as many Ivy League kids think are the holy grail for admission, which is untrue...

haha, that must be some hook! Unless you are donating millions to the school, accepted at RSI, or an Olympic athlete, your hooks dont give you an above average shot.
