I honestly expected to get into Whitman with a 4.0 weighted GPA, 2020 SAT's ( including a 750 on critical reading), and a number of extracurriculars. However, I got rejected. Was it wrong to think I'd get in? Also, do you know if there is a weightlist or an appeals process?

Whitman does waitlist people, but they would have included that as an offer. Most schools probably have an appeals process, but unless there is a great deal of new information they are probably unlikely to change their decisions.

Their profile for matriculated students from last year averaged a 3.8 something for unweighted gpa, so there are probably a lot of people with grades as strong or strong than what you have. Your overall SAT's don't put you in the top bracket for them either. Statistics alone are not going to cut it at highly selective schools. That is not to say you couldn't do well at Whitman or places like it, but they have to make decisions.

If you really want to go to Whitman, their number of transfer students applying are pretty low. You could re-apply after a year of college somewhere else. It would be lot easier to get in as a transfer student, but you would want to make the case in your application for the fit with Whitman.

A lot of it is demonstrated interest. They have a lot more qualified applicants than they can accept, and they want to let in people who want to go to Whitman..

You can always call the admissions office and ask to appeal?

I thought this might be of interest.
