hey, i am a jr and thinking of possibly applying to Uof R, could those of you who got accepted post your stats for those of us considering the school?

uh sure though i may not be the best example, my admissions were purely out of luck.

sats: 640m, 640cr, 610w
gpa:4.230
rank:1/390

ecs: a whole bunch of stuff

"......my admissions were purely out of luck......"

Insane_Membrane, you must be kidding! Your stats are good!!

I'm thinking he was refering to his SAT scores...

heh. 700 v 800 m 740 wr, 3.9 uw gpa, 8/237, err.. what else do we say in cases such as these? sat II's, but those don't really count

oh, and lots and lots of scioly.

740 v, 730 w, 610 m
3.7uw gpa
top 5% of 531
ecs: president human relations club
co-president model UN
mock trial attorney
school newspaper editor

seeing everyone else's stats, makes me feel so stupid, lol. Yeah its pretty competitive, but if you're applying, I also suggest you write awesome essays as well. Rochester not only looks at score but overall character of the person.

Awakien... That is interesting that you say you are strong in science but weak in math...
I guess you are more of the biology type?

I did very well in Biology and Chemistry, and I don't know about Physics yet because I haven't done AP Physics, but I did very well in Regents Physics (the minimum physics requirement in NYS). I dunno, Im just more the science type - maybe its because math is so abstract while science can be more easily applied to stuff...

I was accepted ED-II for fall 2006.

SAT I: 800 V, 590 M

AP:

Decent essays
I came to Rochester alone for my interview, which I think helped to demonstrate interest.

whoa those are some insanely imbalanced sat scores. I think in addition to our stats, we should also post what attracted us to rochester, for the future applicants to see.

For me it was the flexibility of the program, and freedom to study what you want. Plus what college creates its own colors, dandelion yellow and rochester blue, and has a weed for its flower, Dandelions.

curriculum definitely!!! and i just liked it when i visited. im all for choosing colleges based on gut feeling.

"whoa those are some insanely imbalanced sat scores."

Haha, are you referring to my scores? I'm absolutely terrible at math.

I chose Rochester for several reasons. I really liked the curriculum - obviously, I didn't want to have to take too much math. I think the size of the school is really nice (too large for everyone to be all up in my biznass all the time, too small to be impersonal).

SAT: 2200
720M
740CR
740W

710Chem
740Bio
600Math I

91 GPA (Top 20%)

My essay was extremely personal and I thought it was pretty good but I didn't let anyone else read it. My extracurriculars were honestly just barely there. I'm against doing **** in high school that is only to get into college. I'm glad that I got into a college that I love without wasting my time with them. I'm from New York and was accepted regular decision.

hey north dakota exists! I swear I have never met anyone from north dakota, or anyone who has family there, visited, etc. I started to wonder if it was a real state, haha.

I also like the idea of not taking much math in the future. Everyone there seemed really nice and helpful, and the academic programs are excellent.

SAT (old) : 1310
SAT (new): 2030

AP BIO: 5
AP Psych: 5
AP PHYS AB: 4
AP WORLD : 4
AP US: 4
AP ENG LAN: 3
AP CHEM: CURRENTLY TAKING (5)
AP MACRO/MICRO: CURRENTLY TAKING (4, MAYBE)

RANK: TOP 5%
GPA UW: 3.85

ES's:

"FIRST" ROBOTICS TEAM (4YRS)
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD (3YRS)
EMS EXPLORER (2YRS)
HOSPITAL VOLUNTEER (>200HRS)

WORK: PART TIME (4YRS)

REASONS I CHOSE UR:
- ACADEMICALLY FOCUSED YET NOT ALL-OUT NERDY
- CURRICULAR FREEDOM
- ONE OF THE BEST AND ONLY BRAIN AND CONGNITIVE SCIENCE PROGRAMS
- SMALL CAMPUS/STUDENT BODY
- CLOSE TO HOME (I'D LIKE REAL FOOD ON WEEKENDS + MOM DOES LAUNDRY = YAY)

ESSAY: SOMETHING I USED FROM ENGLISH FROM LAST YEAR, A BIT MODIFIED
INTERVIEW: DEFINITELY EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ONE, PREFERABLY ON CAMPUS; MINE WAS JUST AN EASY GOING CONVERSATION W/ ONE OF THE HEAD PEOPLE FOR UR ADMISSIONS

Woot Sci oly!

What state did you compete in?

Wait a second...and first? Sounds like your a websterite.

new york

You're from webster, so you should know Dan Chao....we were partners for some things in scioly...and FIRST too.

I also see...nick roman and aaron? in your ball pic...they were on robotics too...nick's an awsome kid.

"hey north dakota exists! I swear I have never met anyone from north dakota, or anyone who has family there, visited, etc. I started to wonder if it was a real state, haha."

Unfortunately, it's real.
