Just wondering what accepted students average stats are for BFA MT. Anyone?

um, I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of being able to get into Pace University (I was accepted into the school seperately) and then they accept 20 MT's. So I don't know what the academic standards actually are and I think some people actually audition before they actually get their academic acceptance, so I'm not sure what they do with that.

yes thats correct. there are no specific academic qualifications for theater majors, however like littlemtgirl said, they must meet the standards for the university's academics and get accepted to the school in order to get accepted into the program.

for more info about specific admission requirements check out the pace website at pace.edu and look under undergraduate admissions and i'm sure that all of the information you need will be there.

I found out that some of my admission credentials to the school did not make it to the admissions office. (letters of rec) I audiitoned 4 the mt program march 18th and really hope to make it. I resent my stuff to the admissions dept this week. You don't think this will effect my chances of getting into the program do you?

thanks for posting hilary. you are such a great help!

no it wont..the only way we cant accept you is if we are given, by admissions, a rejection letter from the school. BUT since they dont have all your stuff, they cant accept or reject you so no worries.

:)

My daughter was not accepted to Pace MT, but didn't realize that she could still be considered for Pace in a regular major. Her application was never completed because we had received the original turndown for MT. But then one of her friends that also did not get in to MT, was accepted to the school with a great financial aid package.

Do non-majors have any options to become involved in performing? Do they have any of the performing arts classes open to them? I did see a Theater - Minor option. Does being in the city in general, give you advantages/opportunities that you wouldn't have at a normal campus for performing?

We are still trying to pick from several schools that did not accept her into MT, but would still have some performance options with a regular major.

Up in post 2 I believe, the poster said that they accept 20 MTs? Do they ACCEPT 20 or is that the usual incoming class size? If it is the usual size, how many do they normally accept?

I think Amy Rogers said at the info session that last year they accepted 25, and got 23. So this year they were emailing back and forth with some of the students so they wouldn't go over 20! So I guess they accepted 20, and have a waiting list.

Anyone can actually try out for the shows; chances are obviously a bit slimmer as the department does have its own studetns to serve BUT like I said, the option to audition exists. There are also non-department shows that happen. There are several students who work with Pace Cares, an organization within the school that uses performance as an opportunity to raise money for charities. Also, the Student Theater Coalition tries to have a "New Works" once a month to promote new works by either students or outside sources - these are also open to anyone that is interested.

As far as classes go, there are several that have non-major sections -
Acting I
Theater History
Fundamentals (Theory)
Lighting Workshop
Directing
Playwrighting
Stage Management
Some dance classes

and there are probably a few more..

About NYC, I mean there are always outside sources to use for performing. this city is the host to almost all auditions processes for tours and regional theaters. There are dance studios, STEPS, Broadway Dance Center, etc around the city that offer open dance classes. Private vocal coaches, teachers, etc are everywhere. As far as Pace having more than outside NY 4 schools - I really cant say - Im just not sure of other schools projects BUT I can tell you how much we do ...

There are 4 faculty directing shows each semester - 2 musicals, 2 plays, as well as student directed shows and the Directing Festival in the fall, where around 20 one act plays are performed. So I guess that about 30 or so performing opportunities within the year with extra projects such as the Christmas Cabaret and the Freshman Cabaret that pop up.

The goal, which is a little over the ideal number, but what is necessary for Pace adminstration is 25. As BRbway said last year more people than expected said yes only it was 35 that we accepted and 32 who came! So yes, in order to prevent this from happening again, we opened dialogue with several prospective students to see where they were in their selection process, that way we could send out more letters if there were people who said no.

Thanks Hilary - you are a really good spokesperson for your school. While you are working on your directing career, you would be great at public relations!
