Accepted summer to the College of Communications! After all this time thinking I wasn’t in!

Accepted summer, IST College!

YAY accepted to smeal for fall 08 =)

rejected from UP with a 2040 sat (1320) 3.5 unweighted gpa out of state for communications

oh wow… how did I get into communications and you didn’t?

I have a friend who got accepted to altoona but as you guys might know, housing at altoona is full so i was wondering if he could just change campuses or better yet change to the summer session for university park.

Woohoo! (Sorry, I know that sounds dumb, but I can’t help it.) We just finally got an acceptance packet in the mail!! Whew! We were really in a panic because as of Tuesday when we called, there still hadn’t been a decision and nobody really seemed to know why.

We are thrilled. My son was so set on PSU that he refused to even consider any backup schools.

He’s in for Communications - Summer of 2008.

Congrats momwriter (and S!). Get that acceptance deposit in ASAP so he can get his choice of housing!

chen443 - i think a change to UPark summer is virtually impossible. i’m sure a transfer to another campus would be an option. or get on the waiting list at altoona. they have off-campus housing which is right across the street from campus. MANY student live there because there just is not enough on-campus housing available.

Has anyone been accepted yet for engineering?

Thanks, G Dad. And yes, we plan to get the deposit in ASAP. He’ll be going for the LEAP program, so I’m not yet clear on how housing works for that.

Question: is there a specific dorm that might be the best fit for a quiet non-partying type? I know all of the dorms will have at least some of the party atmosphere, but I’m curious if the non-partyers tend to gravitate toward certain dorms.

collegemom16:

My son was accepted into Engineering at UP for the fall about 3 weeks ago.
We applied by Nov. 30th.

momwriter-
S lived in Hartranft which is in Pollock. I remember commenting on some of our weekend visits how quiet the place seemed to be. S said it did liven up a little from time to time, but was relatively quiet, especially compared to East. The place is well maintained. However, the drawbacks are the cinder block walls and poor lighting in the dorm rooms. We went out and bought some extra desk lamps which seemed to do the trick.

From what I know, no partying is allowed in the hallways and it is enforced.

Another option for your son is one of the Honors’ Dorms, Atherton and Simmons. Both dorms are not filled to capacity with honors’ students so do house non-honors’ as well. There are many study rooms, beautiful lounges and a community that emphasizes learning. In addition, many of the students are very involved in a myriad of activities. This is not to say that there is no partying in the dorms, because there is, but the majority of the partying takes place outside of the dorms.

and there are Special Living Options (SLO) housing, including the Living in a Free Environment house. I don’t have any first-hand experience with these, but they sound good: [Penn State Residence Life](http://www.sa.psu.edu/webtest/rl/existing_slos.shtml)
