I'm Posting this on the main board so people don't have to search endlessly through the status update thread to keep up.

Note: Please don't reply unless you've read the whole thing or at least the bottom bolded section until the end.

Basically, at this moment there are a few scenarios that statuses have gone through.

The first, for students accepted in the first wave, status changed from "being reviewed...Expect a decision by April 1st" to "application has been forwarded for committee review." These students' statuses were changed to the "acted on" status, about roughly until all acceptances were received, and switched back to the first "being reviewed" status. The anomaly is that current students, like tocollege mentioned, also had their statuses changed. His status went from the "forwarded" back to the "being reviewed" status just as accepted applicants' did. My assumption for this is that USC had already accepted these people without alerting them, and just did a system-change that changed all applicant accounts that have been accepted to theses statuses, which affected all applicant accounts that have been accepted, including those from past years.

The second, some students who weren't accepted first wave received a status change from the "being reviewed" to the "forwarded" statuses about a week after the first "forwarded" statuses started to appear. These statuses have not changed to "acted on", and no acceptance has been received, nor the letter (correct me if i'm wrong) indicating that you are no longer being considered for the two major scholarships (presidential and trustee). Statuses have remained at this stage. (some of these applicants have received the letter, as evidenced by oxolojo, who actually had the status change to forwarded after the letter was sent)

The rest were changed to the "your application has completed a preliminary review of your application" from the "being reviewed" status, where most of us are right now. However, some of us have received the letter notifying us that we're not being considered for the two big scholarships, while others have not. Also, some "preliminary review" statuses actually asked for 7th semester grades, while the rest stated that they "might" need this information.

The last possibility is that your status was at some point changed to "forwarded" and then changed back to whatever the third scenario was at the time ("being reviewed" or "preliminary"), which I attribute to either a change of heart by the admission committee, or an error made by the system, or person changing the statuses.

Regarding the letter: The letter states that you are no longer being considered for the two major scholarships, presidential and trustee. This means you can still possibly receive the Dean's scholarship, which is quarter tuition, so don't let this bring down your hopes. Second, from what I've observed, the only people who haven't received the letter seem to be on the east coast, with the exception of one person who was from California. Also, nobody can confirm that they received the letter and somebody else who lives in the same area who should have received it didn't. There was a school where 5 people weren't accepted first wave and all 5 received the letter for example, granted their stats were similar. The letter was first received monday Feb 1st in Cal., and according to Oxolojo, the letter was postmarked Jan. 29th. My assumption is that everyone who was not accepted first wave will eventually receive the letter, but just hasn't due to tie-ups with the postal service, as they are most certainly not perfect, and it's only been a couple days since it was first sent. (let me know if you know a neighbor who has received the letter and you have not, or vice versa, so you can confirm that I am wrong, as I would LOVE to be wrong. :D)

My final assumption is that the best case scenario is that your status is at "forwarded" but it is completely subjective at this point, as we can't know anything for sure. Looking deeply into these statuses will certainly, I promise, lead us astray in deciphering what they mean, but at least it gives us something to do in the mean time while we wait for our decisions to arrive, not to mention they claims based on legitimate hypotheses, so they usually aren't too far off, and at least help provide some insight to how our application is being looked at. Finally, If you're going to reply, please include:
-the statuses your application has received
-a quick summary of stats (ACT/SATI, GPA, Significant hooks like URM, and anything else notable)
-what school you're applying to (major if known, as well as stats that contribute to that major/school)
-whether or not you've received the letter notifying you that you're no longer a candidate for scholarships
-where you live (state)

and as well, try to limit small talk to other threads, and try to only include information that contributes to the knowledge of the situation, as I'm opening this thread to inform people and I don't want people to have to look through 30 pages of posts to get information on the topic. Thanks a lot!
