@reformedman, wondering if your DS has visited both NJIT and Rowan? Two totally different campus environments. My DS is a junior at Rowan with three engineering roommates. He couldn’t be happier. He also has a friend at NJIT, he loves it…architecture/honors program…he spend lots of time in NYC. I know the final finances are the big factor, as was with us, but the schools in my opinion give very different vibes (just visited NJIT again with my DD).
I’m following here for my DD’s boyfriend who is waiting for Rowan’s financial package and honors program.
The waiting is torture!! Keep us posted…good luck!!
My son had visited njit on a school trip. His highschool is highly recruited by njit so they make it a yearly trip for seniors. We have not visited rowan yet but i watched just about every yt video on rowan to see the good and bad about it. I like what I see, and that video wtih the girl listing all her grievances about rowan wasn’t enough to convince me. I don’t doubt there are some issues perhaps, but I believe that is normal for all schools. You get what you pay for. Just very curious what the financial aid will be.
edit; @tpcrd66
@rlhdoyle Thanks for the suggestion. I read your account about the wrong SAT score. But I think that the Rowan ship has sailed. DD was accepted into the CWIT Scholars Program at UMBC and she’s always really liked Rutgers, especially their engineering program, so it’s down to the Scarlet Knights and the Retrievers, with UD on the bubble.
@mtown27 Best of luck to her!!
Happy to see that Honors Acceptances have gone out. Has anyone received info on Rowan financial aid packages?
@tpcrd66 We went to the accepted students reception yesterday. They handed out financial aid letters and D got hers. If you don’t attend an accepted students reception, I assume they’ll mail them out but don’t know when.
Just a note/observation about accepted students reception: there are 10 of them by invitation only. They do a nice job, but they didn’t have breakout sessions by major like most other colleges. Was disappointed in that, because there is usually valuable info given at those sessions that are specific to the major. Also, I think they purposely invite students who attend the same high school to each reception. D saw at least ten kids from her high school.
@jjmom1, Thank you for the info…hoping the financial aid package will follow shortly in the mail! Sorry to hear the reception was abit disappointing in format but hope the visit “sealed the deal” for her. My DD’s boyfriend went to one at another school yesterday and had the same feeling at his…that the school was talking more about the programs and info that was already given … not about student life and opportunities to interact with other “hopefuls”.
