kristin-
I think you have a good chance of being able to transfer into the college of fine arts your soph year. so much of the first year is just liberal arts requirements anyway. If you get good grades especially. I would call the fine arts dept. directly and ask that question - ask them what kind of gpa, portfolio, or whatever that they would require. I think you have a good chance of being accepted to UT in general btw.

Another kid in study hall called and put admissions on speaker.

Not that they've been telling us the whole truth up to now but, the smaller colleges like Business and Engineering are making their final reviews of people who were in contention for one of the non-top 10% spots-or, in the case of Business-non-top 5%, and, if you were passed up, they pass your app onto Liberal Arts. That's why the Nav Bar changed. It's CLA or CAP after spring break.

He also said that Lib Arts is gong to "overaccept" because they got 3,000 more apps than last year and they know that some people are not going to accept their spots for enrollment. "SOME STUDENTS USE US AS A SAFETY SCHOOL" Direct quote.

Wait? So now that I haven't gotten a decision yet... i'm going to get CAPd pretty much :-\?

AHH this is stressing me... What about summer program cut offs!! I don't care if I have to go for only a summer, but CAP is not something I want to do and waste a year of my life at.

The counselor presentations tend to indicate that virtually no one actually gets declined. At worst, applicants get sent to the CAP program. Anyone agree or disagree?

gpslouis - as long as you are a Texas resident, turned in your app on time, got a good enough SAT score to qualify for the CAP program you never get "denied" from UT. They only "deny" OOS. I was told this at Longhorn Saturday. UT reserves 80% of its spots for Texas residents. Of course top ten % students take up almost all of that %, but yeah. Since UT is a state school they never really "deny" you as a Texas resident -- though CAP would = rejection for me :(.

So, even if you are going to get CAPed --your status page will still say COLA?

WELL. Liberal Arts ACCEPT ME. I AM NOT USING UT AS A SAFETY. I am using UT as my friggin dream school. It's the place I've wanted to go since 4th grade geeezzz. Well, knowing theyre going to overaccept gives me some hope.

Yeah seriously, the only place I want to go is UT and the only thing stopping me is their top 10% rule.

I got into a college that is actually better than UT Austin, so, if I don't get into Austin we know how screwed up the system is with this whole top 10% DEAL! Considering it's much harder to get into the otehr school...

libby - Do they they really reserve only 80% of their spots for Texas residents? The College Board site says that 94% of the students are from in-state.

Haha canu yeah I've gotten into UW-Madison which is a better school than UT. I found out I was into UW-Madison < a month after I applied. It was great. They sent me a big packet and everything. So logically it would make sense that if I get into a better OOS public school I should get into my own in state lower ranked public school, but logic means nothing when it comes to top 10% rule haha :(

off topic - has anyone heard back from the college of communication yet?

when i went to UT last spring, they said to not put liberal arts as a major choice since if you don't into your first choice or second choice, they'll look at one more time as an undeclared liberal arts major. i guess that's why not as many applied there this year.

hmm well I know i'm very capable for UT, probably alot more capable. My grades just don't show it... I slacked off till second semester of Junior year. Since second semester of Junior year, my grades have been averaging out in the 95-96 range with AP classes and community college classes.

My ACT was strong, especially my reading/english - 32 and 29 respectively. 28 in math and 26 in science lol

gpslouis - yes they really reserve 80% from in-state. Meaning at least 80% of UT's incoming freshman class must be Texas residents. Because of top 10% though, this number becomes inflated. The other 14% are part of the non top 10% students who got in.

man... i'm getting scared now. I just want to goto Texas! I was actually going to goto the OOS college I got into since it's better... but I have family obligations...
