Status Update Change = Decision?

tor-dazzle, when was your acceptance letter mailed?

I've got the same situation. I am freaking out, checking the mailbox each day (trying to act cool and calm as I walk to the mailbox) and reading these forums. My daughter doesn't check this forum, doesn't check the mailbox, and flat out told me that worrying is not going to get her accepted. Gees, who's the mom? I feel sheepish.

My letter was dated 3/19, the same date as my last update. I think this is a trend indeed.

hey, tor-dazzle, where do you live? My status date was updated on the 19th, and I applied to Writing for Screen and Television as well. I'm on the east coast, though, and sometimes our mailman sucks. So I didn't receive anything today. =</p>

I guess we'll see tomorrow if this is a trend...

Hm... It seems to me that this "wave" is a bunch of the smaller school acceptances. I, for on, got into the Theatre school (I applied to Critical Studies as well , but marked it as my second choice) and it seems like some of the other small schools (i.e. Film) are sending their's our as well. It's just specualation so I could (and probably am) totally wrong. Whatever the case is, there will be a new class of 2012 Trojans within 2 weeks!

Shadekeiko, I live in Massachusetts...I was surprised it came so quickly but apparently they did priority mail instead of just regular so maybe that's why.

Winfrey- Would Marshall be considered a "small school?" (I assume you are talking about the schools at USC, no the high schools the applicants are from)

tor-dazzle- Where in Mass? I'm from MA too. Also, what program did you get accepted into?

I'm from Western Mass., out by Springfield. I got into screenwriting at SCA.

Maybe it is a trend. My status changed today so if they really mailed it today it should arrive shortly. I applied to Annenberg so the small school theory could be correct as well!

Yeah I get the feeling that people like me whose statuses (stati?) have been at "in review" for a while are sitting in the reject pile. It seem that, if they deem you worthy of acceptance, your letter goes out shortly after they review your application.

i've been in review since 3/9...is this a bad sign? my stats are higher than the average, but then again college acceptance is a crapshot these days for anyone.

Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

only the date changed... from January something to above date. Is this good?

hey tor-dazzle, i live in east hartford, and work in springfield, ma. I applied to sca for production, but as a junior transfer. just thought i'd point out that we're kind of neighbors. congrats!

Well, no letter for us today. : - (
So, maybe the status change two days ago wasn't a good sign. We live in southern CA.

Aw come on, you can't read too much into the online status changes.

suenos53, the last batch was last week and the next batch is next week so i wouldnt expect anything in the mail between now and then.

Seriously, statuses mean next to nothing. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been obsessively checking every hour on the hour. I missed out on a lot of sleep.....jk :)

haha we all can relate to that...at least you'll be sleeping soundly from now on. congrats on getting in!

I think that USC will have some major questions as to the validity and usefulness of the 'status update' feature. We found it to be vague and confusing as the weeks wore on...and reading these boards didn't help. Everybody has a theory as to what each change meant, and for those who didn't have many changes along the way, it led to much unecessary anxiety...
In my opinion, a true status update should have a checklist readily viewable so the student (or anxious parents, LOL, I'm one) can see what has been received and/or logged in...on this status check, the messages and dates seemed to change independently of one another - too much speculation about what it all meant.

S was accepted back in the first wave (after major scholarships end of January), and his status updated for one day to "we have made a decision and you will be notified by mail", then went back to the following, where it has stayed, other than message the same and date updating to 3/04:

Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

This is still what his 'status update' says...!

The waiting is definitely the hardest part and I hope you all have great news over the next few days... GO TROJANS!!
