stay at msu or transfer?

I'm currently a sophmore at the lyman briggs college-MSU, looking to major in physics. I was admitted as an LSA transfer for winter '11 and I still cant decide whether or not switch. I paid the deposit just in case, but I still need help on making a decision

I'll try and outline as many pros and cons as I can, but there may be more (just cant think of them at the moment)

PROS OF TRANSFERING
-prestige (i checked and found that UM is 29th in US news and state is 79th)
-have a fair amount of friends who go there
-closer to home
-all of my 53 credits at MSU transfer (not sure if this is necessarily a pro)
-been there many times and accustomed to the campus, as I have family who goes there
-a lot more options for a concentration in a particular field
-dont care about increasing difficulty, if its better in the long run

CONS of TRANSFERING
-quite used to my current environment
-made some good friends here
-UM is much more competitive
-GPA is 3.7ish right now, and I'm afraid it'll take a hit
-i've heard that its harder to look for undergrad research spots at UM (again, not sure since people say many different things)
-have a somewhat obstructing medical condition, and need to find a single room or an apartment (might be difficult coming in during the middle of the year)
-most available places i've checked are in north campus, completely out of the way from my classes
-pretty comfortable with my workload at MSU

If anyone could, please share your opinions and help, I'd greatly appreciate it

Thanks

My opinion: stay where you are and try for grad school at UMich. It can be tough to find good housing on or near campus, and very expensive, to boot. MSU is a good school (maybe not the best, but still good) and a prestigious grad school is more important than a prestigious undergrad school.

I had no problem getting a single room for a medical reason. There is a one page form your doctor needs to fill out with his license number and a brief explanation of why you need the single, and that’s it. It’s not a big deal, and my doctor barely wrote anything more persuasive than “because I said so.” I got a single room with a private bathroom. Though, I don’t know if housing still has these rooms set aside for winter term admits, you’ll have to ask them.

Transferring can be really hard on a personal socially and academically, and the environment here isn’t awesome for transfers-- I transferred here myself. You can definitely still be successful here as a transfer, but you can’t walk in expecting that it’s going to be the same as if you’d come as a freshman. If you really want to go to Michigan, I would transfer. If you just feel like you should want to because of the prestige factor, I probably wouldn’t.

thanks a lot for the input guys

Emaheevul07, I did call housing and asked them if I could get a room similar to yours. Yeah, the problem isn’t getting a statement from my doctor, as so much as whether there’s space available

Does anyone know what its like in northwood, and how it is if u have classes in central?
