Stay at NYU, or go to Wesleyan?

Fall semester, I decided I might want to transfer to a smaller college since I wasn’t feeling like I was getting the full college experience at NYU. It was hard to make friends there initially, but I did eventually find people I really liked in my second semester. But I still don’t really feel like I’m in college, but I’m not too sure if that has to do with NYU.

And last week, I found out I got into Wes, but I feel very conflicted about where to go now. I love Wes, I love its campus, I feel like it has the perfect amount of people, and I love the idea of its “cozy” atmosphere. Academics are also apparently better, and it has a little more prestige, Wes students have an easier time getting into grad school… I also don’t love the city - it’s great and all, but NYC is kind of overkill for me. I’m from a CT suburb.

But NYU is great too, I have a life established there. I’m an econ (B.A.) major, which Wes and NYU seem to be pretty much equal in. I feel like there’s still a lot for me at NYU over the next 3 years.

Anyone here gone to both universities? Anyone able to weigh-in with some pros and cons of me transferring?

If it makes you feel any better, I am in the exact same situation. I applied to transfer before things got better at my current school and now I just don’t know. Tough situation, but at least you can’t go wrong with two such great options.

One thing that sticks out to me is that Wesleyan must be a lot closer to home, which may be a considerable pro or con for you. Another thing to consider is what you want to do with your econ degree. My guess is that the Stern kids monopolize all the best opportunities, so maybe you’d get more attention from Wesleyan recruiters.

Good luck and let me know what you decide.

I’m told that, at least post-grad, employers generally view an econ degree from CAS and one from Stern near equally and put more weight on your internships.

…Dunno about the actual internships themselves, though. That may well be a completely different story. But NYC is generally a pretty competitive environment and I just don’t consider myself to be that kind of person.

And yeah, Wes would be closer to home but my town is on the Metro-North line so it’s almost less convenient to go to Wes haha. But Wes is an hour closer by car, so there’s that.

Good luck to you, too. I’ll be sure to update.
