Does anybody know any good things about UNT's computer science program? I've been looking for statistics such as graduation employment rate, ranking, and general statistics but I can't find anything.

The reason I am asking is because I am currently a freshman at UNT majoring in computer science, but I was think about transferring to UT-Dallas since they have a more reputable CS program. I am in the honors college at UNT and have an $8k per year scholarship. Is it worth transferring to UT-Dallas and giving up being in honors and having scholarship money so that I can graduate from a more well known computer science program?

UTD is much stronger than UNT in terms of computer science. UTD is definitely the place to go in DFW for EE/CSE/Nanotech. They’ve had Nobel laureates and are heavily involved in STEM funding.

UNT is much more liberal arts orientated with their high musical ratings, extensive art/art history literature, etc. Also, honor’s college really isn’t that worth it.

UTA is cheap, and offers a challenge if you’re into that thing, they have a new NANOFAB building and are growing in terms of endowment, over 60-65% of the school is in a STEM major of some sort . Only downside is that it’s a commuter school with not much to do around. Ironically, all the UTA students go to Dallas or Fort Worth to have fun…and if you’re a UTD student, Richardson is in close proximity to Dallas.

I’m from DFW.

Edit: However, now that I read your post again, you have a scholarship. If it’s going to cripple you and your family financially, don’t transfer anywhere. Just stay stable for now, grind hard, and shoot for a good graduate school. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t go anywhere because you have UNT or whatever non-super prestigious university stamped on your undergrad. There are a lot of UNT, UTA, and UTD folk who go on to UT Austin, Rice, etc. and some go out of state to places like Berkeley, UCLA, etc.

Keep in mind UTA has a transfer scholarship. It’s not as much per year, but might be more if you calculate it relative to UTA tuition. UTA tuition is ~4.5k/semester. It’s a commuter school, so expenses don’t go that much up from there.
