Stay in Exec Board even if the position is not what I want?

I applied to be VP of my school’s Medical Club. I also applied to start and be in charge of the club’s newsletter as Reporter. However, I was recently informed that I didn’t get the VP position but I did get to be the Reporter. I was mildly disappointed but I was happy to be the Reporter. However, I was told later on that being Reporter of the Club is basically just another name for Historian. There won’t even be a newsletter.
I know that holding leadership position in clubs and extracurricular activities is important. However, if it’s a job that I don’t want, is it worth it? Should I just do it this year? I’m planning to be President next year. Will declining the spot on the Exec Board this year hurt me?

So you only joined a club to get the title, to pad your resume, college application as opposed to genuine interest in the club? That’s what it sounds like.

“I’m planning to be President next year. Will declining the spot on the Exec Board this year hurt me?”

What do you think? Would you vote for or appoint someone who quit the club the year before because tey didn’t get the position they wanted? I sure wouldn’t.

@doschicos I’m sorry if I sound like the resume padding kind. I’m just kinda bitter about what happened.
And the reason I considered declining the position is actually because I know I won’t be able to be a good Historian/Reporter that the club needs. Historian is in charge of taking notes, pictures, etc for the club’s activities. I can’t take notes well nor can I take good pictures. I just don’t want to let my club members down just because I’m assigned to do the work I’m not good at.

I would do a good job as reporter…you would take minutes at meetings and send any correspondence that is necesssary…then next year see if you can get VP or Pres.
