Stay off northside tonight (9/10)

I just heard that there was a (possible?) shooting on Northside. I don't know any of the facts for sure but there are definitely a lot of cops in the area and the libraries got warnings about it, and I think many buildings are in lockdown. Just play it safe and stay in tonight and warn your friends.

A police manhunt on the north side of campus for suspects connected to an armed robbery ended with the arrests of two juveniles late last night.

Despite rumors circulating among some students, UC police said no shots were fired in the robbery or ensuing pursuit of suspects. However, police did recover a BB gun on campus that they think was brandished in the robbery.

Both UC and Berkeley police responded to reports of an armed robbery that took place around 10 p.m. at the footbridge over Strawberry Creek near Haviland Hall. UCPD Lt. Doug Wing said an officer identified two people who matched the description the victim gave to police.

A foot chase led to the apprehension of one male juvenile by Cory Hall, while the other evaded arrest, Wing said.

Police armed with rifles set up a search perimeter near Hearst Mining Circle to locate the other suspect.

Police apprehended another male juvenile they believed to be the second robber on Gayley Road across from the Hearst Greek Theatre.

Wing said the one male victim sustained minor injuries and police were able to recover most of his belongings, including a backpack and its contents.

Several student group leaders alerted their membership to the incident through phone calls largely initiated by Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council officials.

“We started our phone tree and notified every single chapter and everyone was out picking up their members by car,” said Panhellenic Executive Vice President Amanda Pouchot.
