Staying at a dorm during college visit

costs money?? how much?

good question chan, i wanna know too

oh...and if you come by yourself (no friends and family), will there be someone who will show you around campus, the town, give you a little company etc.

-doesn't cost any money
-must be arranged ahead of time
-you will generally go stay in a students dorm room (bring a sleeping bag!) and you will attend that student's classes while you are there, follow them around

ok thanks. Should i go during my junior year or my senior year?

as far as i know, you can only stay overnight if you are a senior...

yeah, I stayed over this past fall. Awesome experience! However, as far as I know, you must be a senior and it has to be done in the fall. My advice, call right after labor day of your senior year. Also, if you are interested in a special program like Huntsman, ask the admissions person to set you up with one. My mom set up my overnight, and no one asked her if I was interested in staying with a Huntsmanite. When I got to the campus and spoke with Inge (one of the Huntsman directors), she said that it could be arranged.

Yeah I stayed w/ Huntsman. It was prearranged w/ Inge and the student...definitely recommend it. I got to go to 3 classes also. I did mine in early Nov.

I believe this is true if you stay through the school's official program ... however, if you have a high school friend or alumni already at the college you can go visit them anytime

yeah but from what i read on penn's site if youre setting it up through the admissions office, overnight dorm visits are only available in october, february, and one other month. so plan ahead.

just visit a friend, it doesnt have to be arranged

officially visiting helps show interest, though. And for programs like Huntsman I think its the best option unless youve a friend who is in Huntsman
