Staying Focused

How do you guys stay focused when you're doing homework?

I was very good at it last year and I would finish all my homework and then talk on the phone, check email, talk to my friends online, etc.

But this year, with the computer always in front of me, and since I have to use it a lot to do research or look something up, I always get distracted. When I give myself a 5 minute break to go online, it always ends up being 30 minutes or more.

And it's always so tempting to just take a break and go online when I'm in the middle of studying for a test, especially when it's still early (3 or 5 ish in the afternoon) because I tell myself "Oh, I still have tons of time to work on it later". And then I always end up procrastinating and doing it at 11 at night. and then I'm really focused. LOL. But sometimes I'm still not. and I still go online.

I know it's bad. But I'm like sooo addicted to the internet and myspace and everything, I can't stop. And then sometimes I check my email 19830748293 times a day. It's kinda weird.

And it's just this year too. Last year I could focus really well.

sorry, that was a lot of rambling. So...how do you guys stay focused and on-task?

Don't go online when you don't need to. I understand what you mean when you push back your work because it's only in the afternoon and you have a few more hours. Your experience is parallels mine in reverse. I used to go on right after school, and then I'd end up starting homework at 9:00 PM. Now, I avoid instant messenging until I'm done with all the necessary written work, and anything that needs to be typed is done later. Stay on invisible when you're online if you don't want people talking to you. Also, I have friends obsessing over myspace like you, so they would block the site to avoid going on there multiple times a day. Hope this helped a bit.

** your Answer: **

make a schedule! but sometimes i get distracted too.. but if you can stop i

dont know.. but you should try to change your habits and save your rambling

for later. just do your homework first.. and keep reminding yourself that you

will still get to take a break after you finish your work.. and in the middle of

studying for a test part.. id say instead of like waiting for later.. just like put

a soda next to yu and you know.. drink while studying if you feel bored or

drowsy.. dont go up and do something else. as you know well

procrastination is bad although i sometimes do it myself. the thing is that

only you can change your habit. nobody can stop you from your

addiction. just like drugs.. or smoking cigarettes.. nobody even medicines

may not be good enough to stop you.. only you can stop yourself from doing

it. and for the last part, i stay focused and on-task well when i read or do

something.. i usually get involved in my work and dont try to think of other

distractions that you might come across.. when i write my homework i think..

ohh i know that problem .. and i do it.. then i look at the next one and say..

oh i know that one too.. and i finish my homework later... then youll feel

much happier and relaxed but most of all it depends on your *

habit* and your choice.

COFFEE.

Or sometimes I just go to sleep right after school and wake up at 2:00 or 3:00 and begin working. This works because with no one on AIM, well there's no one I can really talk to.

I wait to do homework during the school day. I get very focused during crunch time. :P

I do the same like be online 23/7 and chat on AIM a lot and I came up with this solution

see before I had my PC and my desk as kinda the same thingies so I can do HW and use PC at same time but as time progressed i spent more and more time on PC so I moved it to a sepereate desk. Now I do my HW and PC stuff on different desks. when I need to use PC for HW, I try to stay away from AIM as much as possible :)

Thanks so much you guys!

Any other tips?

I have the same problem, this week I probably spent 95% of my non-sleeping time in front of the computer. Terrible.

i have the exact same problem =(
i try to keep my computer off when studying/doing HW but often my HW calls for computer use and then i cant stay away from aim and the internet! and yes i also check my email 8714673 times a day too lol

ITS A SICKNESS

Here's an easy one. Disconnect the internet while you are working. Then it won't be a distraction. That's what I've been doing recently. It has worked really well, its not a distraction anymore.
