Hi guys, my major is Computer Science and Engineering and I got 3.65 GPA at the end of the fall 2017 quarter. This is my second year of community college and I already submitted UC application and waiting for the result to come out in early April. The concern is I am doing terribly bad in my Physics class and there is a possibility of getting D for this class. I know that GPA will not be calculated after fall 2017 since I already submitted the application. I don’t know whether I can even get into UCSD as computer science major which is the last choice of my college with 3.65 GPA. Should I just try to get C and pass the class and transfer this year or drop the class with W and stay one more year to boost up my GPA a bit? The reason why I cannot transfer if I dropped this physics class is that I need one more physics course to go and the course does not offer in summer quarter. Thank you!
Do your best to pull the grade up to a C so you can move on this fall.
Take full advantage of your instructor’s office hours and any help you can get from the tutoring center on campus.
Do what you can now to get that grade to a C. A D would mean rescinded admission. It’s still February. Go to office hours, see if there’s tutoring, and work very hard to get a C. Physics is hard.
Damn, this really is a tough spot. A lot of times, there are provisions in your acceptance the require you to get a B in all prereq courses for your major (Maybe a C, at lowest it really depends tho). I would stick through it if I were you. I’m sure this physics class is tough, but dropping the class could result in an auto-rescind if you were to be accepted since it is a major prereq course. At least if you get a C they might let it slide…
Idk what the last date to get a W at your school is, but for mine it isn’t until the first week of May (my school started in feb.) Keep in mind that the UCs will reveal their results during the end of April, so if it’s still not too late to take a W by then, you could always drop the course if you get rejected, and stay the extra year.
Either way man, I would tough it through. If you have been able to keep a decent GPA up until this point in a very tough major, I’m sure that you can get at least a C if you tried hard. I just wouldn’t drop it yet because that most likely will disqualify you completely for this admissions cycle.
