STDs

is there really a high risk of getting STD's at UCSB?

hopefully not
lol

ucsb did a self survey on its student population - it wasnt 100% of the student body that responded to the survey, but they felt confident enough to say that their results said that around 6% does which they go on to say its normal for a college campus, ill try and find the link

6% is normal?

suddenly i dont wanna go to college…

In my work, I’ve talked to people who work at a college Student Health Center. STD’s and pregnancy are not uncommon problems. In fact, these are quite common problems. Like, the majority of their work.

I really wish we could make this a sticky thread:

From the article rc251 posted:

Wow, that is a hoary tale. I remember as a wide eyed high school student in 1972 visiting my brother at UCSB and him relating this fact as accepted truth.

As a person who majors in mathematics, I can’t really see how being below the national average => does not have the highest rate among universities.

However, read the entire section about this to get some better perspective.

I thought people said 2/3 girls have STDs. Guess that’s just one of UCSB’s stereotypes.

..i heard that SB has the highest STD rate throughout all UCs…
deng it…i’m planing to go there too. haha

I don’t see why you’re worried about STDs. Are you committed to having non-protected sex or something?

stay celibate

1/4 of teenage girls have an STD, look on internet (you know it’s true)

^ you mean of all girls in the US or only at UCSB?

Did you say a Sticky thread? lol

Nationwide

i read somewhere that at UCSB 1 in 4 girls have an STI…ill have to find the link, but there were several articles that had the same conclusion

^^ if that’s true, then UCSB teenage girls represent the nationwide rate, because 1outof4 teenage girls in America has an STD

srry ima change that to 1/3 as according to a couple of ppl i know at UCSB…=(…just be careful..is all i have to say…

lol. depending on the sample size, that proportion might not be statistically significant (stats rules)
