Steinhardt Scholars - scholarship?

recently got my letter inviting me to join steinhardt scholars -- the info about the scholarship was pretty vague, though. anybody know how we find out the amount and/or what the typical amount is?

PS - any other comm majors?

My D is a freshman and is in Steinhardt Scholars. She is a Dean’s Scholars. Others are put into University Scholars. It seems the selection between the two is random. There is no financial reward for the program. (Did your letter talk anything about receiving $ ?) The student’s in Dean’s meet once a week (Friday afternoons) for a non-credit seminar. There is also a community service component. Two trips are tied to the program. The scholars went to Austin, TX during winter break and did community service within an elementary school. They were there for 5 or 6 days. The cost of the trip was $300 (or about) including all meals, airfare, etc. D had a blast and has formed good friendships with other scholars. Next year’s trip will be international. They have discussed visiting Costa Rico, but nothing has been decided. The trips alternate between domestic and international, so if you are a Dean’s sSholar you will be on the same trip and part of the same seminar. The University Scholars may travel with them, as well… not sure about that.

quoted from the brochure:

“scholars are awarded a scholarship, renewable over four years of undergraduate study, which included both merit and need-based financial aid…”

perhaps this is new this year? i don’t know.

This from their current website…no mention of $: [Scholars Program - Student Honors - NYU Steinhardt](http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/honors/scholars_program)

Perhaps the brochure is older. I doubt they are adding merit aid for this year…the whole philosophy of NYU is turning against merit aid. I know it was given to scholars in the past years, but it would surprise me if it is now included again. But, good luck!
