Hi, i just got in to the Steinhardt Studio Art program at NYU. I am a New Yorker and I also applied to RISD(haven't heard back yet), Syracuse(got in), and a bunch of liberal arts schools with strong arts programs. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the Studio Art program at Steinhardt. I want to know how well the program prepares its students to deal with the realities of being an "art major" in the competitive job market, how the experience and education at NYU compares with other art schools (especially since NYU doesn't offer the typical structure and majors), how the liberal arts education meshes with the arts education, and lastly how the Studio Art kids mix with the rest of the NYU students...
My biggest concerns when looking at colleges (particularly the art schools) are that I get a good mix of liberal arts with academics in an environment that challenges me as an artist and student and that after graduating from the school I can actually do something in the arts with my education. Regarding NYU, I fear that as a studio art major and not a major in something like painting or illustration I will miss out on opportunities that other art schools can provide for me in furthering my skills and in my art education...
