Hi all,

I am really considering applying ED to NYU in the fall and I was thinking about something. I really intended to be a Media Culture, Communications and Political Science double major which are in two different schools at NYU. I have researched this and see that is doable but when applying which college should I apply under, Steinhardt or CAS? Does one give a better chance or does it matter? Any help or comments would be great!

to do that you would have to apply to steinhardt.

Thanks. Can you elaborate on why?

i’m doing this right now. i’m a lower senior.

you need to have the PRIMARY major in Steinhardt to be able to double major in CAS. you can’t be a political science major in CAS and then major in Steinhardt.

Steinhardt is the smaller program.

Thanks. Is it doable or difficult? Are you just double majoring or do you have a minor as well? Any suggestions or tips/comments would be awesome!

ehhhhhh. . . i’m a special case. i transferred, and i’m not paying for NYU (NYU is paying my tuition) so i’m in no rush to finish the degree. i can’t tell if i would be able to do it in four years and i’m considering minimizing it to a minor instead of a double major. i don’t know if i want to do a full double major when most graduate schools won’t care if i did a double major or not.

i originally did the double major to have a politics major as a backup in case i wanted to do law school, but that’s looking less and less likely.

you can do a minor (five classes) and have it fit within the Steinhardt major and graduate on time.

if you’re getting significant financial aid or you have loans, graduating on time is very important.

You would have to apply to Steinhardt and then apply for the double major in the CAS. Steinhardt will be your primary school/department. It’s very doable, just requires a bit more work. You’ll graduate in time, because there’s a lot of liberal arts credits that can be used towards your CAS major.

And which one would give you a better chance? Steinhardt overall is easier to get into than CAS. It’s still NYU though, so nothing’s actually easy.
