Steinhardt vs Tisch?

Hey everyone,

I'm really interested in applying to the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at Tisch. Ultimately, my dream is to become a singer but I would apply as an executive entrepreneur because realistically, music business is a field I could be able to get a job in. However, I have recently learned about a music business program at Steinhardt? I'm wondering if I should consider that over Tisch. What are the differences and similarities between the Steinhardt and Tisch music business programs? Would it be easier for one to be accepted into the Steinhardt program?

I can post stats if needed. Thanks so much!

omg please i’m begging. thank u

i’m pathetic please help me

Steinhardt is easier. Read about the portfolio requirements for Tisch.

For one thing, there is no Tisch music business or music anything program. All of that is at Steindhardt and Clive Davis. Clive Davis is the most prestigious and intense musical anything at NYU. However, Steindhardt and Clive Davis have slightly different focuses - CD is about the industry and focuses students on making records and tracks while Steindhardt is more like a traditional music school.

If you want to actually work in today’s music industry I would try and get into Clive Davis as it is much smaller and the students seem to be more successful.

when i say “tisch music business program”, i am referring to the clive davis institute. what do you know about the clive davis institute? all feedback is helpful + appreciated.

Do you have experience recording and producing music? Are you in a band? Do you play an instrument? Would you be able at this point to put together a portfolio for an interview? Have you worked/volunteered with a production company, etc? These might be some questions to ask as you prepare for which college within NYU to apply to. As with Steinhardt and Tisch, but even more so because of it’s even smaller size, Clive Davis is enormously competitive. I wonder if a good route would be to apply to either Tisch or Steinhardft based upon your genre as a singer - I.e., are you more classically oriented or are you more Broadway style, etc and then consider the Stern minor created specifically for those students which is the Business of Entertainment. You might also want to ask folks on CC who are in Clive Davis to reply by searching the threads more specifically. I am sure you’ve already asked NYU for more detailed info on each of these programs. It’s a small and newer program so you may some difficulty finding a lot of response, but you should also post on the specific Tisch and Musical Theatre forums for NYU because there might be more CCers there who have knowledge about the program. I am aware that some students transfer into CD ( or at least try to) from these other two programs but you have to go in knowing you’ll be happy where you are initially accepted. Best of luck with your search.
