I believe it was sent to mybama, we have D’s mybama account forwarded to her hotmail.

DS got the e-mail to his mybama account. There is a GPA/SAT/ACT requirement to apply to the program. You can get all info on the program directly at the website:

The University Scholars program is a process to get a masters in four years, isn’t it? Or is that just for kids entering with a lot of credits?

Yes the University Scholars program is a process to get a masters in 4 years but some degrees are not offered under that program…for example MBA and MAC (Master of Accountancy).

The STEM to MBA is a nice 5 year option for non business majors to get their MBA.

The University Scholars program is offered in quite a few areas…
[University Scholars Program < The University of Alabama](http://courseleaf.ua.edu/specialacademicprograms/universityscholars/)

Following is a list of all graduate degrees offered at UA
http://graduate.ua.edu/catalog/14000.html

It depends on the major -

For example in Civil E, it is designed to be a 5 year program:

([Scholars Program - Undergraduate Programs - Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering - The College of Engineering - UA](http://cce.eng.ua.edu/undergraduate/scholars-program/))

Scholars Program

The University Scholars (BS/MS) Program is designed specifically for outstanding students to complete the requirements for both their bachelors degree and a master of science in civil engineering in an accelerated five year period. The University Scholars Program is intended for very capable and highly-motivated undergraduate students who wish to pursue graduate study in the department. Students accepted into the program will receive dual credit for up to nine hours of 500-level courses. The nine hours will be applied to both their bachelors degree and to their masters degree

Of course if you enter with a lot of credits you can try to do it in less time.

The CS university scholars will allow 15 dual credits for BS/MS degree.

For University Scholars, anyone know when a student is invited to participate?

It seems like the invitation to university scholars can vary from department to department too.

Does anyone have experience with the CS Univ. Scholars program? It sounds really great, but I couldn’t find the degree map to do this. What’s the workload like? Would it mean the student needs to limit extracurricular commitments? Could you still pursue research opportunities if you pursued this program of study?

bumping - STEM MBA acceptances were e-mailed to the student’s Bama account this afternoon. If you (or you student) applied, check your e-mail :)

My S got his - he is very excited. :)

D got hers :)

My D is in, too. This is one of the many wonderful things that drew her to Bama.

S2 is a prospective 2013 CE major and we’ve been trying to get more specific info on the STEM + MBA program and how the Presidential Scholarship would apply to this program. Depending on how his AP exams go next month, he could possibly be able to complete the program in 4 years at UA having accumulated 30+ AP credits but we’re of the impression that the PS is only applicable towards undergraduate degrees. Has anyone been able to come up with any other definitve information on this topic?
Also, is/was there a specific cut-off date for applying to the program for incoming freshmen?

The Presidential scholarship covers up to 20 hours, I believe. So the scholarship covers the 1.5 hour MBA class that the student takes for 8 semesters. Assuming that the student stays at 20 hours or less.

I do not think it covers the 9 hours in the summer between junior and senior year. It doesn’t cover the solid year after you complete your BA or BS degree. I wish I could find the paperwork for the STEM_MBA program. Maybe someone can share their child’s paperwork regarding the program.

We thought that we heard that the student’s current undergraduate scholarship would be in force for the STEM_MBA program. Can’t find any confirmation on that.

S2 emailed Dr. Morgan last week regarding the matter. Hopefully we’ll have a better understanding of how academic scholarships work in conjunction with the STEM/MBA program once he hears back from him.

^^^Great! Congratulations to you and the others for receiving the invitation. I think it is a great program. Roll Tide!!

Son received a reply from Dr. Morgan regarding UA’s scholarship policy in conjunction with the STEM path to MBA program: “Currently, the UA administration does not allow undergraduate scholarships, like the Presidential, to be used for graduate studies. However, the business school dean has committed to scholarship students who score 700 or better on the GMAT for the MBA year.”

It should not be very hard to score above 700 in GMAT with a few weeks of studying. Hopefully most/all students will get the scholarship for the MBA year. Congratulations and best wishes to everyone who got accepted into the STEM early candidacy MBA program.

You get 4 years of scholarship under presidential. So I think only the 5th year is in question.

There are many that are using the presidential for their BS/MS under university scholars for graduate studies.
