STEM Lab Classes and Covid

Is it true that kids that need Physics with a lab for graduation arent going to be able to take classes like that if schools dont resume in the fall? And what happened to the kids who signed up for those classes this past spring?

@Dungareedoll Well, I don’t necessarily know about next fall since this decision is still in the air. If anything, labs will just be online like this spring.

However, during this Spring 2020 semester, I was actually taking a Physics class with a lab that I did need for my major. I already was maybe 6 weeks into the semester taking in-person labs for my Physics class before the Stay-At-Home Order hit. We didn’t stop though. We did take a break for a week for adjustments, but the classes went on and all of my labs were put online. Like my Bio and OChem labs, my Physics Lab was fairly easy to transition online. We made our labs and lab reports based on online simulations and videos. It was quite sad though, for all three of my labs, since we weren’t getting the physical interactions and it just wasn’t the same. I was able to pass every single lab with an A-/A though at the end, but there was that lack of skill I was missing.

All in all, if colleges are still online, online Labs can work.

The UCs announced hybrid today.

Not really. The article said that it is still up to each individual campus whether or not they want to continue with fully online instruction or have some in-person instruction as well. All of the UC campuses will be “open” in the sense that they will still be having classes (as opposed to canceling the semester/quarter altogether), but it is still not guaranteed that all of the campuses will offer some of their classes in-person. The individual campuses are supposed to make their official decisions about Fall 2020 by the middle of June.

Oh thanks. I guess I didn’t read deep enough in.

Thanks, I appreciate everyone’s input.
