Step-sister's survivor's benefits and FAFSA

My step-sister (who lives with us) is 14 and gets survivor's benefits from social security every month. Since she's a minor, the money doesn't go to her - her dad (my step-dad) gets it. I'm doing some financial aid estimations and was wondering if I have to report it on the FAFSA form under parent's income. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, you don’t have to include it under parent’s income on fafsa. Survivor benefits are income to the one entitled to receive them, which is your step-sister. Your step-dad is serving as her representative payee because she is a minor, but the funds are intended for her support only and any extra must be saved for her only.

Thank you!
