Stephen King: Twilight author 'can't write'

…Well, damn. It might just be a reflection on me that I’m able to relate more to a 70-year-old balding sociologist than a vapid teenage girl suffering from puppy love.

Absolutely. :)

…Even though I’m a teenage girl suffering from puppy love.

IMO, twilight is just a cheap teenage romance novel.

Take away cheap and I absolutely agree.

Wait, also take away teenaged, because a HUGE portion of Twilight fans are Twimoms.

Aw, cute. Women who are unhappy in their mediocre marriages and seek refuge in the escapism of romance novels, lying in bed next to their husbands, wishing instead that they had vampires inside them…

I read that this morning, and it made my entire day! Meyers used the word ‘incredulous’ about 8 times in 3 pages.

It wasn’t even used in the correct context half the time! ****ed me off.

She’s like a little girl trying to sound smart and it doesn’t work out but someone ends up thinking it’s cute, and well, that would be over half of our population. :(

fixed it for you

More tragic, actually.

But such is the power of Twilight as escapist fiction, which IMO is the best fiction.

Im in the process of reading the 1st book…i decided that i might as well read them and either will hop on the Twilight bandwagon or loathe the books but at least be able to say why they are so terrible…

anyways, I’ve noticied that Meyer used a lot more than just the word “incredulous” a zillion times…i forget the specific words though…it really annoys me that she does not have a more extensive vocabulary…

I’m an “experience” reader-- I don’t nitpick when the story is flowing and I’ve immersed myself in the book. I can’t, really.

That said, the books do get a lot less awkward as they move on, though I’m not sure whether that’s from the grammar/vocabulary improvements or just from more mature plotlines…

I never knew anything about Twilight until…

Nevermind, anyways, I generally don’t read books, and I think the Potter books are also horrible (couldn’t get past the 3rd book after 100 pages).

twilight sucks. i read a sentence from a book…almost dry heaved

Twilight’s okay, but after that the books they get worse and worse. I absolutely hated Breaking Dawn. Stephenie Meyer can’t write and her books are not the next Harry Potter novels.

:los

AGREED 10/10

It seems like nearly everyone here is attacking Twilight for immature plots, poor vocabulary, and overall poor literary value.

Does a book always need to be based on literary value? Whatever happened to just reading a book for fun? If Twilight is simply just a teenage romance novel, then why does it matter as long as it sells well? That’s the point of books. Some writers still try writing controversial society-changing novels, but even those won’t sell unless they appeal to an audience. Stephanie Meyer has created a story that teenage girls (and I guess middle-aged women) can relate too. As long as she keep that massive cult-like fanbase, why pick at the book?

Wow… seriously? They couldn’t just enjoy reading the novel without trying to excavate underlying themes and personal conflicts? Sheesh.

As if it were new news that twilight is trash. I would feel so dumb buying twilight at a bookstore I would probably have to cancel it out with a bunch of pretentious books like Gravity’s Rainbow and stuff like Naked lunch so the cashier knows whats up.

Hahahaha, PWND.

I want to MURDER the person who said that Twilight was the ‘new HP’.

You know what’s the most baffling thing in this whole stupid scenario?
Almost EVERY SINGLE person bought into this ****ty series! All of us made this stupid woman goddamn rich and gave her the privilege of getting a book released at midnight. I don’t even understand how it happened–I was totally hoodwinked. Untill the 4th book. Which I murdered.

I think stephen king has basically said that about every author by now.
