Stephen King: Twilight author 'can't write'

This man wins.

Keshira is a horrible ■■■■■ btw, again **** people who say “zomg elitism iz bad!11”, no homo. There are people who earn the right to be elitist and there ain’t a damn thing wrong with the King saying what he said. Of course if Hemingway were around to read this HP/twilight **** he’d want to go back to his grave ASAP.

Why am I a ■■■■■? Because I love Twilight and support Stephenie Meyer? Because it’s so shocking to you that I would have a different opinion that you can’t believe I’m serious?

From your language skills, I don’t think you’ve earned the “right” to be elitist if anyone has. Anyone can cite Hemingway as ‘great literature’-- the point is that you shoudl respect other people’s preferences too.

Twilight is the reason Microsoft needs to ditch right-click>>thesaurus on Word.

Did we really need SK to make us aware of the fact that Twilight is a flimsy, poor-quality story? Keshira, why should people respect other people’s opinions if they are bad? If I honestly think that minorities should be herded up and shot, then you shouldn’t respect my opinion and should bar me from offices where I might execute my ■■■■■■■■ opinions. If you think Twilight is a good book, for the safety of everyone else’s brains, you should be squelched and barred from polluting airspace or bandwidth with your flimsy defenses of Twilight.

Opinions are made to be bashed by superior opinions, and all opinions get bashed by facts. Such as the fact that Twilight is proof that crap sells.

you guys need to read Zen and art of motorcycle maintenance. merely due to the fact that your understanding of what is good literature and what is not is EXTREMELY skewed.

^ Twilight is hardly the type of creative intuition Pirsig was talking about.

Funny, I have that book but I’ve never read it.

This is an extreme example, but it seems you don’t get it so…

If I wrote a 50 page book about how rape was so awesome and about grotesquely murdering little children was a necessity, and I wrote it in a somewhat inoffensive, genuine, academic way in order to appeal to a particular audience (if I wrote such a thing, I bet I’d have many sick followers, thus successfully getting an audience to appreciate my work), and people bashed it, um, they should respect the opinions of my followers?

Again it’s extreme - but you seem to be not understanding the point. The “it’s an opinion and everyone should respect it” thing is old, trite, and useless.

I agree that while Twilight is a piece of crappy literature, people should be allowed to enjoy it without harassment.

WHAT. THE. HELL? [Springhole.net Blog » Blog Archive » Twilight fans brutally assaulting non-fans.](http://www.springhole.net/wordpress/?p=55)

I am not making this up.

But really, for me this is all for the lulz - I can’t believe people would go that far…a whole website, board, fangroup for both sides…?

Interesting.

“Superior” opinions? Are you serious? If she enjoys Twilight, then she enjoys it. Unless I’m reading something for AP, I like to soak up the story. That’s why I enjoyed all the Harry Potter and Eragon books — they don’t require any deep literary thinking; I can simply enjoy the book for its story.

If the rest of you find fun in trying to compare books’ literary values, then fine. That’s your prerogative. The “quantitive” way of measuring a book’s worth is how much it sells. In this sense, Twilight is one of the better books. I don’t think it’ll endure like a classic, but many more people will read it for simple enjoyment.

And yes, if you think people should be herded up and shot, you still have to respect the other person’s opinion — at least as far as not showing violence. There’s nothing wrong with asserting your opinion, especially if someone makes that extreme of a statement, but showing tact makes you the better person. Blasting it in their face makes you just as bad as them.

And people protested when I said there was some elitism and pseudo-intellectualism going on here.

Thank you for implying that I am “■■■■■■■■,” for saying that I should be “squelched” for “polluting airspace” with my opinions, and for saying that I am unworthy of respect because my opinions, being different from yours, are clearly inferior. Thank you very much for proving my point.

I hope this issue hasn’t upset you enough that any homicide should occur.

■■■■■ harder pl0x

oh, man.
don’t get me started on twilight.

all i have to say is stephen king is my hero.

I love Steven King, AND I enjoyed Twilight. Guess maybe my head should start spinning around ala Linda Blair now.

I’m just glad for choices for my kids and I to read. If they get excited enough about a book to want to read the sequels, then great. I really don’t care about which is “better” literature when it’s just reading for pleasure. But then again, I’m still spitting out pea soup ala Linda Blair in the Exorcist!
