Steps for Applying to College

I'm just trying to make sure I have all the basic steps down.

Take ACT and SAT

Fill out each college's online application

Fill out FAFSA and/or CSS PROFILE

Fill out intent to enroll form

Am I missing anything? I'm trying to keep myself organized.

Colleges will have requirements beyond the app – such as rec letters, personal statements etc. You need to coordinate w/your HS guid counselor to send in your transcripts and 2ndary school reports. You need to arrange for your ACT/SAT scores to be sent to each target school.

Good for you to get organized! I would suggest you start a spreadsheet, and put every task on it with a due date (and maybe put dates on for drafts of essays a couple of weeks before they are due so you don’t get buried at the end). Every college has different dates for when things are due, and also may have extra essay topics or extra forms needed for financial aid. Some top college also want subject tests, so look into whether any colleges on your list require those. And test fairly early for the SAT and/or ACT; leave your self with some extra time to study and retake if you aren’t happy with your first set of scores.

Also… add running the net price calculators and visiting where you can onto your task list.

Get letters of recommendation if schools require them and take SAT subject tests. Many schools use the Common application, so you only have 1 app to fill out. Also work on and refine essays.

I’m already done with steps 1 and 2. Just making sure there’s nothing I’m missing after the acceptance letters start rolling in

oops duplicate post
