So I’ve decided to try the ACT one more time and try to achieve a 33-34. My current score is 31 so I will need a lot of help but I think I have a really good chance since my score improved by 3 from the first time I took it.

Anyway, I’m analyzing the ACT right now with nothing else but the Real Act Prep book. So far, I’ve divided critical reading (my worst subject) to 3 steps.

Skim questions to see what the passage is about. 30 seconds. I used to hate reading the questions but I’ve found out that it takes away the “lost” feeling that I get when I read a passage that starts in the middle of something (like an essay or a book).

SKIM the passage. 2-4 minutes. I used to “read” the passage as in word for word, but after I tried skimming really quick through it, I found out that not only do I remember the overall picture, but my mind can recall where specific details are so I can refer to them later on. It seems that when I read the passage word for word, I get bogged down trying to remember all the deatils so instead, I just move my vision quickly through can catch a word here and there.

Answer the questions. 4-6 minutes (depending on how long it took you to skim). Nothing more here, just answer the question as fast as you can. I’ve found out that the simpler you think of the questions and passage, the easier it is. Don’t Overanalyze.

Well, thats all I have to far. I realize this is a very simple guide right now but I believe that when there is only 8.5 minutes to read a passage and answer 10 questions, simpler is better. If any of the high scorers (32+) have any other tips or steps they would like to point out, Please do so. I need to know if I’m missing anything. Thanks.
