steps to transfer from uc to uc

I am a student at uc riverside(going into second year) and I want to transfer to UC irvine or UC sandiego. I have a 3.19 GPA(undeclared major). Please explain the steps on transferring. Do I need to talk with the counselor, when do i need to start applying, do i apply the same time as all the other high school students. I am very lost and i am need help asap> THANKS!!!

I'm in a similar situation. I go to UCSD (going into second year) and I want to transfer to Berkeley. Sorry for shameless copying your entry, but I have 3.7 GPA (Interdisciplinary Computing in the arts). And I hope to transfer as history of architecture major (and if possible, apply for the mass comm major). I am really confused about having all the pre-reqs done... what are the pre-reqs anyways?

I am with you guys. I want to transfer from UCSD to UCSB or UCSC.
I have read that if you are transferring as lower division, if you apply to a school that you got into in high school, then you only have to maintain a 2.0, but most schools only accept junior level transfers during winter, which is when I am applying.

enigma...which major are you applying for at Berkeley? They only allow one major on the application & mass comm is a capped major at Cal. The good news is that it is possible to transfer there. I was suprised to see two transfer students from a 4 year university during our calso advising. One was from a UC & the other was from a CSU so it does happen. good luck.

I don't think assist can work 100% with intercampus transfers...you just have to cross coordinate courses and match prereqs.

BTW I was admitted to Cal from UCD, so it's not too hard to do intercampus. Quite a few of the people here were successful intercampus students (ie santa barbarian, davisengineer, startraks, etc)

rdw, could you cite or elaborate on the 2.0 thing

I think I read it in the transfer application for UC's, but I just went back and looked and didn't see it. I am probably wrong about it, so don't take my word on it

I did irvine to la. If you fulfill your GEs from the UC you are at now, you don't have to take the GEs at the new UC.

Does anyone know where I can see what upper div stuff transfer?

I'm worried because a lot of the classes I'm taking are going towards the comm major at UCLA (but luckily a lot of them double as GE's). Does this mean I shouldn't/can't apply to Cal as a 3rd year transfer if I declare Mass Comm? I'm probably aiming to be a double Poli Sci major as well so should I apply to Cal as a poli sci major? My only worries are that all of my extracurriculars and jobs and such point to a Mass Comm interest (business fraternity, public relations internship, sales job, etc.)

worried senior, does uc reciprocity only work if you fulfill all the GEs at your previous UC or can it work if you just fulfill the lower division GEs?

I would bet that you need to fulfill all GEs (including upper division GEs) otherwise there would be a problem trying to figure out which upper division classes transfer and count for other classes, its just easier to group all of the classes from your old UC and say that those classes count for your GE.

i'm at ucsd right now under econ, trying to switch to ucla under econ too. i think that after summer school ends i'll have a 3.731 gpa. i really don't know whati 'm supposed to be doing. i've emailed ucla a few times and they told me to switch into a higher math. i've read other things from here and online that say that i just have to complete the GEs at ucsd, which is easier math. not sure what to do...

Why do you want to transfer? UCI is a great school and growing every day. I think it will one day rival UCLA academically.

I would go with the higher math if UCLA is telling you to, unless the higher math will really hurt your gpa

well i'm almost certain that i can pull off an A in the higher math...notice the almost lol. it's a little scary because they call it "engineering" math but whatever. i've never actually met/heard of anyone who has successfully transferred from a uc to another uc. does anyone know what kind of gpa you have to have? i was concerned cos i heard that uc get 3rd priority over transfers and state.

if you are at ucsd, go to the advisors they helped me a ton in oder to transfer

msuvani, GPA's my concern too. Are we supposed to have the 3.5-4.0 GPA in order to be considered. I read in another forum complaints about the difficulty in getting a 4.0 from a CC compared to a UC/4-yr. I have talked to a Haas counselor and found out that we're at a disadvantage period because CC students take priority. UC intercampus transfers receive 2nd priority.

Does anyone have the stats for successful UC intercampus transfers to Haas?

I believe the common adage for Haas is "3.No, 4.Go." <--(I didn't make this up, I think mojojojo did but I'm not sure)

DO THE HIGHER MATH.

Seriously. I did Math 16A and B at UCD, and it was a NIGHTMARE in the transfer process. A lot of bad **** resulted. Don't do it. Take the higher math.

(UCD Econ -> CCC -> UCLA Econ/Int'l Area Studies)
